Director of people operations

Particle Health
New York, NY

About Particle

Particle Health is revolutionizing healthcare data analytics and interoperability. Our mission is to unlock the power of medical records in an intelligent platform that focuses health back on the patient.

Through our modern data platform, we enable healthcare innovators—ranging from value-based care providers and payers to digital health companies and health systems—to access standardized, real-time patient data. By bridging fragmented data silos, Particle empowers organizations to tackle critical use cases such as care coordination, risk stratification, patient identity management, and regulatory compliance with ease and precision.

Our solutions of Snapshot, Signal, Navigator, and Workbench address the complex challenges of healthcare data analytics and interoperability, helping our customers transform data into actionable insights, improve patient outcomes, and streamline workflows.

About The Role

We're looking for a hands-on Director of People Operations who can build and execute our people strategy while rolling up their sleeves for day-to-day HR work. You'll work autonomously, own the full employee lifecycle, and be the team’s first point of contact for all things people-related.

Location & Work Schedule

This hybrid role is based in New York City. We strongly prefer candidates who are within commuting distance and able to work from our NY office two days per week (Tuesdays and Thursdays).

Key Responsibilities

Employee Experience & Culture

  • Assess and help improve comprehensive onboarding programs for new hires
  • Manage employee lifecycle experiences from the first day through career milestones
  • Handle sensitive employee relations issues with discretion and care, escalating to legal when required
  • Develop and execute employee engagement initiatives and culture-building activities for a hybrid workplace environment
  • Conduct exit interviews and analyze feedback to improve retention
  • Partner with Executive Assistant on team-building events and recognition programs
  • Monitor employee satisfaction through surveys and feedback mechanisms

Talent Acquisition Leadership

  • Oversee the recruiting function and collaborate with hiring managers to define role requirements
  • Partner with and manage external recruiters and recruitment agencies
  • Draft compelling, accurate job descriptions that can attract top talent
  • Design and optimize hiring processes for efficiency and candidate experience
  • Manage candidate pipeline and communication throughout the recruitment process
  • Ensure positive candidate experience from application through offer/rejection
  • Track recruitment metrics and improve hiring processes based on data
  • Coordinate reference checks and background verification processes

Process Innovation and Execution

  • Own and execute performance review cycles in Lattice
  • Develop, update, and communicate employee policies and procedures
  • Design and coordinate training programs and professional development opportunities
  • Execute seamless onboarding and offboarding processes
  • Identify process inefficiencies and implement scalable improvements
  • Maintain employee records and ensure data accuracy in HRIS systems
  • Handle day-to-day HR operations, including fielding questions from staff, ensuring a smooth virtual office, and supporting any escalated issues from teams or managers

Management & Strategic Partnership

  • Provide direct management and mentorship to the Operations Manager, ensuring smooth execution across IT, procurement, internal tools/systems, and NYC office operations.
  • Coordinate with our PEO for payroll, benefits, and compliance
  • Manage relationships with HR vendors, benefits providers, and service partners
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
  • Stay current on employment law changes and update policies accordingly
  • Provide guidance on compensation, promotions, and organizational structure decisions
  • Support the CEO and CoS in workforce planning and headcount management
  • Prepare HR reports and analytics for the leadership team
  • Work autonomously with minimal oversight while keeping the CEO informed on key decisions
  • Balance startup agility with necessary HR structure and scalability

What We Seek

  • 7+ years HR experience with progression from generalist to leadership roles
  • Previous experience as the sole or senior-most HR person at an earlier-stage startup (Series A-C)
  • A passion for and interest in designing and rolling out programming that creates a strong and unified hybrid culture
  • Proven track record in hands-on HR leadership roles, comfortable with both program design and execution
  • Experience working independently and reporting directly to executive leadership
  • Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive employee situations with discretion
  • Experience building and scaling people operations in growing companies
  • Comfortable being the sole HR leader and primary point of contact for all people matters
  • People management experience preferred
  • Solid understanding of employment law and compliance requirements
