Data Engineer - Subscriptions
As an Engineer in the Subscriptions mission, you’ll help build and operate the systems that power Spotify’s paid media measurement, attribution, and audience targeting. You’ll work on production systems that process marketing data at scale, enabling teams to understand performance, optimize spend, and reach the right audiences.
You’ll join a multi-functional squad, a multi-functional team at the intersection of engineering, marketing, product, and analytics, focused on finding future listeners and driving sustainable growth across Spotify’s Free and Premium offerings. In this role, you’ll contribute to global-scale data pipelines and integrations that support high-impact campaigns like Wrapped and help marketing teams make smarter decisions about where and how to invest. This is a hands-on role for someone excited to work on real production systems and see their work directly shape how Spotify grows.
What You'll Do
- Build and operate data pipelines that power paid media attribution, audience targeting, and campaign measurement across global marketing platforms.
- Build and operate batch and real-time data pipelines on Google Cloud Platform that process billions of marketing and user events daily at global scale.
- Partner with marketing, analytics, and product teams to instrument data collection, translate requirements, and ensure data quality while operating within legal and regulatory constraints.
- Contribute to integrations with external marketing platforms, supporting reliable audience delivery and suppression workflows.
- Monitor and improve production systems, strengthening reliability, observability, and operational readiness.
- Work within a cross-functional, agile squad to build and own data systems end to end, partnering with marketing, analytics, and insights teams to create solutions aligned with business priorities.
- Collaborate with fellow engineers to design, build, and operate data systems, while contributing to shared standards, tooling, and continuous improvements in how the team works.
Who You Are
- You have solid experience building and maintaining production data pipelines and systems
- You’re familiar with development and deployment within cloud environments (ideally GCP)
- You’re fluent in SQL and at least one programming language (Python, Java, or Scala), with experience using cloud data warehouses like BigQuery, Snowflake, or Redshift
- You understand batch and streaming data processing, ETL/ELT patterns, and data modeling fundamentals
- You care deeply about data quality, system reliability, and building systems downstream users can trust
- You value strong engineering practices, including testing, monitoring, and maintainable code
- You’re comfortable incorporating GenAI tools like Claude into your development workflow
- You’re comfortable working in an agile, product-oriented environment and collaborating across engineering, product, analytics, and marketing
- You’re pragmatic, hands-on, and able to balance delivery speed with long-term quality
- You thrive in ambiguous and fast-changing environments, and know how to make progress even when requirements are evolving
- You have experience with marketing technology ecosystems (attribution platforms, CDPs, ad platforms) is a bonus.
Where You'll Be
- This role is based in New York.
- We offer you the flexibility to work where you work best! There will be some in person meetings, but still allows for flexibility to work from home.
