Keyboard Specialist - Full-Time

The Town of Guilderland is accepting letters of interest and resumes from candidates interested in applying for the full-time position of Keyboard Specialist in the Building, Planning and Fire Prevention Department.

Union Starting Salary: $39,612/year

Hours : Monday–Friday 9:00AM – 4:30PM

Primary duties may include but are not limited to:

· Answers questions from contractors and property owners on the phone and at the department counter regarding department policies, rules and regulations and directs more complex questions to higher-level personnel;

· Assists the public in completing applications for various permits, including general building, plumbing, swimming pool and fence permits;

· Maintains and updates files for permits, applications and official correspondence;

· Accepts cash, checks, money orders and credit card payments for permits for small and personal projects, various structures and capital construction projects;

· Writes up minutes for board meetings;

· Sorts, date stamps and distributes mail and packages;

· Prepares correspondence to necessary parties regarding department-specific matters;

· Maintains alphabetic, numeric, chronological and/or other types of filing systems relative to department correspondence, documents and other materials;

· Does related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

Please note: Candidates will not have to take an exam for this title. This is a Hiring Emergency Limited Placement (HELP) Program-designated title through Albany County Civil Service. The HELP Program is a temporary program designed to help local government employers address current staffing issues. Traditionally, the titles filled under the HELP Program required job candidates to compete in a competitive exam to be considered for employment. For the duration of the program, this title will be classified as non-competitive and categorized as a “HELP Program” position. At the close of the program, this position will revert to competitive class status. Employees occupying positions filled through the HELP Program will be granted competitive class status without the need to participate in a competitive exam.
