Notice of Employment Opportunities
Faculty – FT and PT
As enrollment continues to rebound from the lingering effects of the National Health Emergency, the Institute of Audio Research at Five Towns College anticipates continued growth in the Audio/Sound Recording Technology faculty for the 2026 – 27 AY. The College invites nominations and expressions of interest in appointment from qualified individuals.
Five Towns College is a senior institution of higher education, offering programs of study from the associate degree through to the doctoral degree level. Although most students are enrolled at the undergraduate level, graduate programs in Music, Music Education, and Sound Recording Technology are also experiencing healthy enrollment levels
Five Towns College is specialized institution dedicated to Music, Media, the Performing Arts, and Music and Entertainment Industry Studies. Institutionally accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), the College has also earned programmatic accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM), and the National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST). The College attracts artists and scholars from across the tri-state region and several states, to its beautiful 40-acre campus in Dix Hills, the geographic heart of Long Island. Approximately 1/3 of students reside on campus.
The Institute of Audio Research is the academic department of the College that oversees Audio and Sound Recording Technology educational programs and services. These include a program in Sound Recording Technology leading to the M.P.S. degree, as well as Audio Recording Technology major areas of concentration within the Music, Business, and Mass Communication Departments leading to the A.A.S., B.B.A., B.S., and Mus.B. degrees.
Faculty members have the major responsibility of guiding the curriculum and students, and for achieving strong student learning and student achievement outcomes. While adjunct faculty members may be assigned to teach between 3 and 9 credits per semester, full-time faculty members may be assigned to teach higher loads. Full-time faculty members also have responsibility for student academic advisement, maintenance and repair of audio recording facilities, and for oversight of live sound events sponsored by the institution – both and off campus. The faculty manage the technical aspects of the Five Towns College Performing Arts Center (PAC) designed by the world-class acoustical design firm Bolt, Beranek & Newman (BBN), and for the technical aspects of the John Lennon Center for Music and Technology designed by the world-class Walters-Storyk Design Group (WSDG).
Successful candidates shall have a record of professional experience in recording studios, live venues, and other locations where sound design plays a prominent role. Successful candidates shall possess a bachelor’s degree and Pro-Tools Certification, with a graduate degree and prior teaching experience highly preferred. Prospective candidates with significant professional experience and industry recognition may substitute academic credentials for equivalent experience, and are also encouraged to apply. Typically, those appointed on the basis of experience alone shall possess not less than eight years of relevant related industry experience with a record of significant progressive responsibility in the subject area.
