Job Description
We’re seeking a versatile Data Scientist / LLM Engineer who is passionate about solving real-world semiconductor manufacturing problems with advanced analytics, machine learning, and large language models (LLMs). You’ll join a high-impact team to build, fine-tune, and integrate LLM-powered solutions into production systems that deliver measurable value and delight our large customer base of manufacturing facilities around the world.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and deploy machine learning features and applications with a focus on LLM-based solutions (e.g., RAG systems, analytical chat bots, plain language data analysis).
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and translate them into modern LLM solutions.
Prototype and scale natural language processing (NLP) systems using state-of-the-art tools (e.g., LangChain/LangGraph, Ollama, etc.).
Contribute to internal frameworks for data pipelines, inference services, and model governance.
Own pathfinding work to understand and execute on deployment options for LLM-based applications at customer sites.
Conduct data wrangling, feature engineering, and model evaluation on structured and unstructured datasets.
Qualifications
Requirements
3+ years experience in Semiconductor Manufacturing
Strong proficiency in Python and data science libraries (e.g., pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn).
Hands-on experience with LLMs and NLP toolkits (e.g., LangChain, LangGraph, etc.).
Familiarity with modern LLM architectures (e.g., GPT, LLaMA, Claude) and prompt engineering strategies.
Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS or Azure) and ML ops tools (e.g., MLflow, Docker, FastAPI).
Proven ability to translate ambiguous problems into clear analytical solutions.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field. Master’s or PhD preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), vector databases (e.g., ChromaDB, Pinecone), and embeddings.
Experience with Oracle, SQL & PL/SQL
Exposure to or experience in web application development and familiarity with frameworks like .NET
Applied Industrial Engineering / Factory Operations experience
Prior work integrating LLMs with web apps or internal enterprise tools.
Experience with fine-tuning or distillation of transformer models.
Experience developing MCP servers
Contributions to open-source projects or publications in NLP/ML.
Additional Information
The expected salary range for this position is between $90,000 and $140,000 per year. In addition, INFICON employees are eligible for a profit sharing bonus with a target of 10%. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law.
