Lower middle-market private equity firms and investment platforms within our network may seek analytically strong Deal Screening Associates to support the initial evaluation and prioritization of investment opportunities .
Individuals in roles like this focus on rapidly assessing inbound and sourced deals, identifying attractive opportunities, and filtering out misaligned or high-risk transactions before full diligence. Teams are typically lean, providing exposure to how investment judgment is formed at the earliest stages of the deal process.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Deal Screening & Initial Evaluation
Review inbound and sourced investment opportunities across multiple sectors
Conduct high-level financial and qualitative assessments to determine investment fit
Analyze business models, growth drivers, customer concentration, and risk factors
Prioritize opportunities for advancement into deeper diligence
Financial Analysis & Return Assessment
Build and review preliminary operating and transaction models
Perform high-level valuation and return analyses (LBO, comps, precedent transactions)
Assess capital structures, leverage capacity, and downside scenarios
Market & Competitive Analysis
Conduct industry and competitive research to contextualize opportunities
Track market trends, transaction activity, and valuation benchmarks
Support development of investment theses at the screening stage
Investment Committee & Deal Team Support
Prepare screening memos, summaries, and presentation materials
Clearly communicate findings, risks, and recommendations to senior investors
Support transition of approved opportunities into full diligence processes

Education & Technical Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field
Strong Excel skills with the ability to build or assess transaction models
Solid understanding of accounting, valuation, and private equity return drivers
Experience (Formal or Informal)
Prior internships or experience in investment banking, private equity, consulting, transaction advisory, or corporate finance is beneficial
Demonstrated interest in investment evaluation, deal analysis, or transaction work
Soft Skills & Mindset
Strong analytical judgment and attention to detail
Clear written and verbal communication skills
Ability to synthesize information quickly under time constraints
Comfortable working in fast-paced, deal-driven environments
