Job Description Summary:
As a Sr. Software Development Engineer in Test (Mobile) on the PayPal Ads Engineering team, you’ll design and execute comprehensive manual and exploratory tests to ensure seamless, high-quality mobile releases across iOS and Android. You’ll collaborate closely with developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to validate new features, assess end-to-end ad experiences, and ensure a consistent, high-trust user journey. In this role, you’ll own the testing lifecycle — defining test strategies, conducting regression and feature validation, managing release readiness, and driving continuous quality improvements. You’ll also identify opportunities to build or extend lightweight automation frameworks and tools that reduce manual effort, improve coverage, and enhance testing efficiency across the Ads platform.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Delivers complete solutions spanning all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) (design, implementation, testing, delivery and operations), based on definitions from more senior roles.
• Advises immediate management on project-level issues
• Guides junior engineers
• Operates with little day-to-day supervision, making technical decisions based on knowledge of internal conventions and industry best practices
• Applies knowledge of technical best practices in making decisions

Expected Qualifications:

• 3+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Deep hands-on experience with mobile application testing across iOS and Android, including use of Firebase, emulators/simulators, and real-device labs for functional, regression, and performance validation.
• Expertise in analyzing observability metrics, logs, and dashboards to validate analytics capture, optimize monitoring coverage, and drive data-informed quality improvements.
• Strong proficiency with cross-browser and cross-session testing, including advanced tracking, cookie validation, and authentication scenarios across multiple surfaces.
• Skilled at using developer tools and network inspectors to debug complex client-server interactions and decode tokens or payloads (e.g., JWT) for test verification.
• Proficient with inspection and traffic analysis tools (Charles Proxy, Fiddler, Proxyman), providing actionable insights through detailed request/response logs and trace headers.
• In-depth understanding of ad creative configuration, targeting logic, and delivery validation, with the ability to independently manage and test campaigns—reducing dependency on AdOps.
• Experience collaborating across product, engineering, and data science to align test strategies with feature rollout, analytics tracking, and campaign optimization goals.
