Staff Associate II - Pulmonary
Position Description
The Department of Medicine seeks a Staff Associate II to work directly with Dr. Matthew Baldwin (Principal Investigator) and the study team on their projects: (1) the NIH-funded Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) Recovery Study, and (2) the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Platform Trial (IMV-ECLS). The Staff Associate II will be responsible for coordinating clinical research activities and supporting study operations in compliance with study protocols and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Clinical Research Coordination: coordinate day-to-day study operations. Oversee screening, recruitment, and consent of ARDS survivors, following up with participants through clinic visits and telephone-based assessments.
- Data Collection and Management: Maintain and optimize data collection processes, which include extraction of data from electronic medical records, in-person survey assessments, long-term follow-up phone questionnaires, and entry of data into secure web-based databases.
- Clinical Assessments: Perform bedside clinical assessments, including delirium assessments, physical frailty assessments, and other strength and walk tests in the hospital and at a clinic visit.
- Phlebotomy and Biobanking: Perform phlebotomy and support biobanking activities, including blood sample collection, processing, and storage.
- Communication and Collaboration: Facilitating communication in an effective manner with clinical staff, patients, and with research team members and collaborators at Columbia University and Johns Hopkins. Train and support research staff on study protocols and data integrity.
- Regulatory and Compliance: Prepare and maintain regulatory documentation and study records; ensure compliance with IRB protocols and human subject regulations; assist with audits, monitoring visits, and grant reporting.
- Independent Statistical Analysis: Conduct data cleaning and analysis of ARDS survivors’ data, including descriptive statistics and basic tests of associations with limited PI supervision.
- Quality Control & Data Integrity: Perform quality assurance activities of ongoing studies, utilizing analytical skills to identify and resolve discrepancies based on established guidelines and protocols.
- Scholarly Reporting: Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts and funding proposals in collaboration with the PI.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in epidemiology, biostatistics, or a related field.
- Prior experience in clinical research or healthcare setting.
- Excellent English language communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or equivalent in epidemiology, biostatistics, or a related field.
- Experience with MS Excel, REDCap, and statistical software, preferably STATA.
- 4 years of relevant experience.
- Phlebotomy experience.
