Legal Assistant – Loan Modification and Foreclosure Defense

We are a law firm seeking a reliable, organized, and client-focused Legal Assistant to help clients pursue loan modifications and other foreclosure-prevention options.

The Legal Assistant will serve as the primary liaison among clients, mortgage servicers, lenders, and other financial institutions throughout the loan-modification review process. This process is similar to the underwriting process for a mortgage purchase or refinance and requires careful document collection, organization, follow-up, and condition clearing.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and review clients’ income, asset, property, and financial documents.
  • Prepare loan-modification applications and supporting submission packages.
  • Organize and submit documents to mortgage servicers and financial institutions.
  • Review lender correspondence and identify outstanding underwriting conditions.
  • Work with clients to obtain updated or missing documents.
  • Follow up regularly with lenders and servicers regarding application status.
  • Assist clients in responding to lender requests and clearing underwriting conditions.
  • Keep clients informed regarding the status of their applications and any required next steps.
  • Maintain detailed notes, task histories, deadlines, and communications in the firm’s case-management software.
  • Develop professional relationships with clients and lender representatives.
  • Protect confidential client information and comply with applicable laws, regulations, and firm procedures.
  • Perform related administrative and legal-support duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

  • At least two years of experience in loan processing, mortgage servicing, loss mitigation, underwriting support, foreclosure prevention, or a comparable client-service role is preferred.
  • Familiarity with mortgage documents, financial documentation, and lender underwriting requirements is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong client-service skills and the ability to communicate with clients who may be experiencing financial stress.
  • Exceptional organization, follow-through, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple files, deadlines, and document requests simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating with attorneys and other staff members.
  • Professional judgment and discretion when handling confidential financial and legal information.
