About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Buyer on behalf of our client, a precision machining and manufacturing organization located in Brooklyn Center, MN. This role is responsible for leading purchasing activities, building strong supplier relationships, analyzing vendor performance, and ensuring materials and supplies are procured at the right time, at the right cost, and with the appropriate risk profile. The Senior Buyer will play a key role in supporting production needs, improving supplier performance, managing purchasing costs, and helping the organization maintain efficient operations in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Job Description
The Senior Buyer will manage supplier relationships, evaluate purchasing opportunities, and collaborate across departments to ensure procurement activities support business and production goals. This position requires strong analytical skills, proactive communication, and the ability to manage purchasing decisions that impact cost, quality, delivery, and overall supply chain performance.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Develop and manage supplier relationships, including researching, identifying, and onboarding new suppliers to broaden the supply base and improve competitive advantage.
  • Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate competitive quotes, bids, and proposals from suppliers to ensure the lowest total cost of ownership while considering price, quality, reliability, and delivery timelines.
  • Analyze vendor performance, including on-time delivery, quality compliance, and pricing benchmarks, and present findings in a meaningful way to support continuous improvement.
  • Evaluate the total cost impact of supplier price increases on product margins, including raw material, labor, and transportation cost drivers.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate financial risks related to supplier price volatility and supply chain disruptions.
  • Establish, maintain, and support the purchase order requisition process to ensure goods and services are procured in a timely manner.
  • Review purchase requisitions to confirm purchasing needs and timelines align with organizational requirements.
  • Collaborate with departments across the organization to understand needs, anticipate shortages, and maintain proper inventory levels.
  • Review customer forecasted demand and issue forecasts and/or blanket purchase orders to suppliers as needed to cover requirements and maximize purchasing power.
  • Convert approved requisitions into purchase orders and track receipt of open items.
  • Collaborate with internal teams on system transactions to help ensure job accuracy.
  • Support questions and investigations related to raw materials, maintenance, repair, and operations supplies.
  • Follow up with suppliers on open orders, expedited deliveries, invoice discrepancies, and shipping issues.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support purchasing, procurement, and supply chain operations.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in business or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of purchasing experience with a track record of significant and measurable performance improvement.
  • Experience developing supplier relationships and managing vendor performance.
  • Ability to solicit, evaluate, and negotiate supplier quotes, bids, and proposals.
  • Strong understanding of purchasing, procurement, inventory management, and supply chain processes.
  • Ability to evaluate total cost of ownership, supplier price increases, and financial risk factors.
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to work through ambiguous situations and complex problems.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent proactive communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal departments and external suppliers.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • ASCM certification or equivalent supply chain certification.
  • Experience with JobBoss ERP software.
  • Experience using AI tools and technology in a professional setting.
