Position Summary
The Facilities and Grounds Manager is responsible for ensuring the safe, clean, and efficient operation of all IOOV buildings and outdoor spaces. This hands-on role involves daily maintenance tasks, preventative upkeep of building systems, and care of the surrounding grounds. The ideal candidate is highly skilled in general trades, proactive in facility care, and committed to maintaining a welcoming and functional environment for staff, clients, and community members.
Key Responsibilities
Facilities Maintenance
- Perform daily inspections and maintenance of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical components
- Identify and complete minor repairs or coordinate with contractors for larger issues
- Conduct preventative maintenance to reduce equipment downtime and increase facility longevity
- Maintain janitorial standards in common areas and facility restrooms
Groundskeeping
- Oversee the condition of outdoor spaces including walkways, entryways, parking areas, and landscaping
- Perform seasonal tasks such as leaf removal, snow removal, salting, and basic yard care
- Ensure the grounds are safe, accessible, and aesthetically maintained
Safety & Compliance
- Follow and uphold all safety standards, building codes, and OSHA regulations
- Safely handle and store hazardous materials in accordance with legal guidelines
- Identify and address potential safety hazards proactively
Operations Support
- Maintain maintenance records, service logs, and supply inventories
- Monitor building condition and make recommendations for improvements or repairs
- Respond promptly to emergency maintenance needs, including on-call availability for urgent issues
- Occasionally assist with furniture moves, event setup/breakdown, or other facility needs
Qualifications
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED; vocational or trade school training preferred
- Minimum 5 years of experience in facilities maintenance or building operations
- Demonstrated skills in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general repairs
- Ability to conduct routine inspections and maintain building systems at optimal function
- Excellent time management and problem-solving skills
- Must have a valid, unrestricted New York State driver’s license , proof of auto insurance, and access to reliable transportation
Preferred:
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations and safety protocols
- Experience working in nonprofit or community-based settings
- Strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted
- Comfortable with prolonged standing, bending, lifting, reaching, and climbing ladders
- Willingness to work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions
Working Conditions
- Exposure to varying weather (rain, snow, cold, heat) while performing groundskeeping duties
- Possible contact with cleaning agents, power tools, or hazardous materials (with provided safety training and equipment)
- Must be available for weekends, holidays, and on-call support as needed
