8th Grade Science Teacher (Conceptual Physical Science – CPS)

Job Summary

• McQuaid Jesuit, a Catholic school in Rochester, NY, teaching boys’ grades 6-12, is seeking a 8th grade Science teacher (Conceptual Physical Science – CPS). This is a full-time middle school teaching position in the Science department, teaching 8th grade science (CPS) starting January 2026. Ideal candidates have an undergraduate degree in Science or a related field, prior middle school teaching experience, a willingness to promote all areas of Jesuit education, and are open to growth, religious, loving, intellectually competent, and committed to social justice. We seek candidates who will participate in the extracurricular and spiritual life of the school. There are expectations of this position that may include but are not limited to school retreats and faculty formation.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials to develop student learning.
• Develop, plan, and implement curriculum, lesson plans, and educational programming for 5 sections of middle school science.
• Follow established teaching procedures in line with a Jesuit education.
• Instruct and mentor students.
• Use school provided technology to help deliver learning materials.
• Follow school disciplinary rules for maintaining the code of conduct within the classroom and school grounds.
• Provide timely and productive feedback to students.
• Maintain school student records and grades in a timely and appropriate manner.
• Participate in department, school, and professional development.

Additional Responsibilities

• Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Science or a related field with a minimum of 3 years of teaching or related work experience.
• Master’s Degree preferred, prior background and experience in Jesuit secondary education preferred.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing all day. The employee will occasionally lift or move items over 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment: Fast paced school environment working in a school and/or office setting.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: Temporary Full time exempt, position until the end of the school year with typical hours of 7:30am to 3:30pm. (additional hours/days may be required during the summer, extra summer days are paid a per diem rate)

Daily Pay Range: $200 to $300

Possibility for Full-time position for the 26-27 school year. Salary range $48,000 to $58,000 per year
