The First Presbyterian Church Nursery School is dedicated to providing a nurturing and educational environment serving one hundred students from two to five years old. Our mission is to foster early childhood development through engaging activities, caring staff, and a supportive community.

Summary

We seek an energetic and student-focused Food Specialist to joinour team of Early Childhood Educational Professionals and lead our Project A.P.P.L.E. (A Place for Planting Learning and Eating) program. The ideal candidate will have a background in nutrition and the ability to create project based learning opportunities for students to explore healthy foods. The Food Specialist is responsible for preparing daily healthy snacks for all classrooms, curriculum development, and engaging in professional dialogue with colleagues and with families through ongoing documentation. Other functions also include consistently maintaining student health and safety standards, and contributing to care of the pantry/prep area and community garden. This position starts August 25, 2025, for the 2025/26 school year. This is a ten month position. Please see our school calendar for more information.

Responsibilities

• Manage procurement and purchasing of food orders to insure timely arrival and distribution.
• Ensure food allergy precautions are addressed for each classroom.
• In coordination with our teachers, plan cooking projects designed for children's participation, including baking, freeze-drying, canning, etc.
• In coordination with teachers, plan trips to Union Square Green Market and facilitate planting and utilizing items for snack offerings from our roof top pocket garden.
• All work must be conducted with utmost attention to hygiene and safe food handling

Requirements

• Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Experience in nutrition and early childhood education or a related field is preferred. Food Protection Course is a must.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of educators.
