Development Manager

Status: Full-Time, Exempt
Salary Range: $80,000–$85,000

Position Summary
The Development Manager leads and executes The Egg’s fundraising strategy across all contributed revenue streams, including membership, grants, foundation support, government funding, corporate sponsorships, and individual giving. Reporting to the Executive + Artistic Director and working closely with Finance and Marketing, this role is responsible for identifying, securing, and stewarding funding to support The Egg’s programming and mission.
This is a unique opportunity to serve as the organization’s first full-time development professional in many years, with the ability to build, shape, and grow contributed revenue for long-term impact.
About The Egg
The Egg is a performing arts venue in Albany, NY, featuring two theaters (980-seat and 440-seat). Owned by the State of New York and operated by the Nelson A. Rockefeller Empire State Plaza Performing Arts Center Corporation, The Egg presents a diverse range of performances, supports emerging artists, partners with community organizations, and advances arts and cultural education in the Capital Region.
Key ResponsibilitiesStrategy & Leadership
- Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy
- Assess and refine development systems, strategies, and performance
Grants & Institutional Funding
- Research, write, and manage grant proposals and reports
- Identify and pursue funding from foundations, corporations, and government sources
Individual Giving & Membership
- Manage donor and member pipelines, including cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
- Strengthen and grow the Membership program
Campaigns & Revenue Initiatives
- Plan and execute annual and special campaigns, including year-end appeals
- Manage the seat naming campaign, including donor recognition
- Oversee revenue-generating opportunities such as program book and digital advertising
Operations & Financial Management
- Collaborate with Finance on tracking, reporting, and compliance
- Develop and manage project budgets
- Build and maintain systems to track fundraising activity, deadlines, and revenue projections
Minimum Qualifications
- 1–3+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising or development
- Demonstrated grant writing experience
- Strong project management skills with the ability to meet deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- High level of organization and attention to detail
- Experience working with budgets or financial tracking
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in an arts or similarly sized nonprofit organization
- Experience developing and implementing fundraising strategies
- Track record of increasing contributed revenue
- Experience managing membership or donor programs
- Familiarity with the Capital Region and local funding landscape
- Experience with New York State funding and reporting requirements
- Ability to build or improve systems for tracking development activity
- Strong relationship management and donor stewardship skills
- Collaborative, proactive, and adaptable approach
Work Environment & Schedule
This position is primarily remote, with periodic in-person meetings, donor engagements, and event support as needed. The schedule is flexible and self-directed in coordination with the Executive + Artistic Director, with an emphasis on meeting deadlines and maintaining consistent communication.
