K-4 Support Teacher - Job Description

Position Summary

The K-4 Support Teacher provides targeted academic and developmental support to students in kindergarten through 4th grade. The teacher works with students who need additional assistance in reading, math, or other core subjects, and supports classroom teachers in creating an inclusive, effective learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide individualized or small-group instruction in reading, math, and other core subjects based on student needs.

• Support students with learning differences, developmental delays, or English language learning needs.

• Assist in implementing accommodations and modifications for students with IEPs or 504 plans.

• Monitor and document student progress, adjusting instruction as needed to meet learning goals.

• Collaborate with classroom teachers to align interventions with daily lessons.

• Promote social, emotional, and academic growth in a positive and supportive classroom environment.

• Communicate regularly with parents/guardians about student progress and strategies for support.

• Participate in professional development, team meetings, and school activities.

• Maintain accurate records of interventions, assessments, and student outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Education, Early Childhood Education, Special Education, or a related field.

• Valid teaching certification/licensure appropriate for K-4 support roles (as required by the state or school).

• Knowledge of early childhood instructional strategies, differentiated instruction, and classroom management.

• Strong communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.

• Ability to support diverse learners in an inclusive classroom environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience working with K-4 students needing academic support.

• Familiarity with interventions for literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional development.

• Experience supporting students with IEPs, 504 plans, or English language learning needs.

• Ability to use assessment data to guide instruction and interventions.
