College Background:
Paul Smith’s College is a small, private baccalaureate and associate degree granting institution located on a 170-acre campus adjacent to Lower St. Regis Lake in the 6-million-acre Adirondack Park of northern New York State. The College is committed to providing all students with an outstanding undergraduate experience through engaged teaching, experiential learning, and personal attention. Paul Smith’s College seeks student athletes who will represent the college and their sport well, and who are as motivated to succeed in the classroom as they are in competition.
Position Description:
Under the general supervision of the Director of Athletics, the Assistant Women’s Hockey Coach will assist the Head Coach with the duties of developing and managing a successful Women’s Ice Hockey program at Paul Smith’s College.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Act as the Assistant Women’s Hockey Coach, including helping to organize practices, games, and travel.
- Assists in the development and maintenance of an effective program to identify student-athlete prospects for the Women’s Hockey program.
- Assists with recruiting activities to include attendance and participation in Open Houses and Orientation which adheres to College, USCAA, and AAU policies and procedures.
- Provides effective supervision of Women’s Hockey student-athletes in the practice areas, competition, and life management, including travel.
- Assists in maintaining a system to provide accurate records regarding individual and team performance for the college, regional, and national conferences.
- Assists in the coordination of team travel and similar responsibilities for out-of-town Women’s Hockey games.
- Assists head coach in recruiting efforts for program.
- Actively participates in the Student-Athlete Recognition Event.
- Serves as a role model for student athletes.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Women’s college hockey playing experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of rules and strategies related to intercollegiate Women’s Hockey.
- Effective planning and organizational skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate with student athletes, faculty, staff, and the community.
- Ability to work cooperatively with faculty, staff, student, and constituent groups outside the college to support the continued enhancement and development of the Women’s Hockey program.
- In conjunction with the Head Coach, ability to develop an organized training program (In-Season & Off-Season).
- Ability to provide leadership to student athletes to encourage both successful academic development and competitive performance.
- Possesses, or willing to obtain current CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Willing to work evenings and weekends.
- Possesses valid NY driver’s license, and has a motor vehicle record that meets the College’s approved driver standard.
- Ability to work with a broad range of diverse individuals and groups to form a safe and inclusive campus community.
Preferences:
- 2+ Years experience in recruitment and team management of an intercollegiate athletic program.
- Experience with FrontRush Recruiting Software.
- Experience with Recruiting & Eligibility Guidelines.
