Senior Software Engineer, Java (Domains Product)
Squarespace Domains is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join the Domains Product team. Squarespace Domains supports millions of Domains customers – a community of dreamers, entrepreneurs, and pro-level users all aiming to establish their online presence. The Domains Product team builds intuitive customer experiences to help them manage their domains with ease, irrespective of their technical knowledge. The team is responsible for the complete lifecycle of a Domain, including purchase, provisioning, management, and renewals. This is a hybrid role working from our New York City office 3 days per week. You will report to the Engineering Team Manager of the Domains Product team in NYC.
You'll Get To...
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable and performant backend services and APIs for the Domains product experience, using Java
- Lead technical design discussions, propose solutions, and make informed architectural decisions that align with our overall strategy.
- Collaborate with product managers, frontend engineers, and other stakeholders to translate product requirements into technical specifications and deliver impactful product experiences.
- Set a standard of technical excellence through RFC reviews and the code review process
- Mentor junior engineers, share knowledge, and foster a culture of technical excellence within the team.
Who We're Looking For
- 7+ years of backend software development, building scalable and distributed systems in cloud environments (e.g. GCP, AWS)
- 4+ years of development experience in Java and Spring
- Experience with relational or NoSQL databases such as CockroachDB, MongoDB
- Familiarity with queuing or streaming technologies such as Kafka, Pub/Sub, AMQP
- Nice to have, but not required: Understanding of how a domain works (DNS, TLDs, domain registration processes, WHOIS, etc.).

Cash Compensation Range: $128,500 - $231,500 USD
The base salary for this position will vary based on job-related criteria including relevant skills, experience, and location, among other factors.
In addition to the cash compensation above (which includes base salary and, where applicable for eligible roles, may include on-target commissions or overtime pay), Squarespace employees are eligible to be granted an option to purchase our common stock.
