Salary: $2,475 Biweekly

The Vanderbilt YMCA is seeking a Day Camp Unit Leader who will be responsible for providing leadership, oversight, and support to one of the Summer Day Camp units to ensure quality supervision and program execution.

Summer Day Camp programs operate Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., July through August.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of participants in the program by providing appropriate supervision at all times.
2. Understand, maintain, and ensure that staff and participants follow Risk Management and safety procedures.
3. Work with Day Camp Counselors to plan and implement meaningful activities, lesson plans, and special events that are structured, age-appropriate, fun, exciting, challenging, and values-based.
4. Lead and supervise Counselors by monitoring performance, providing support, coaching, and recognition, and holding staff accountable for performance expectations.
5. Promote an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment that embraces the diversity of all staff and participants and promotes a positive camp spirit.
6. Create and maintain a strength-based, youth-focused atmosphere that is consistent and sensitive to the needs of participants with learning, emotional, or behavioral differences.
7. Perform specific scheduled assignments, including, but not limited to, arrival and/or departure and lunch duty.
8. Support the planning and implementation of all camp activities, including, but not limited to, summer learning initiatives, field trips, in-camp events, and culminating performances.
9. Maintain accurate program documentation (attendance, sign-in/out forms, behavior reports, incidents reports, and accident reports, as appropriate).
10. Understand and communicate the YMCAs core values and the goals of the Summer Day Camp program to staff, participants, and caregivers.
11. Develop and maintain positive relationships with parents and guardians by regularly communicating about their childs strengths and areas for growth.
12. Support the development and facilitation of required pre-camp training.
13. Actively participate in training sessions, designated meetings, and special events.
14. Adhere to all Department of Health, YMCA of Greater New York, and funder standards, expectations, and regulations.

Desired Skills & Experience:

1. Must be 20 years of age or older.
2. High School diploma or equivalent. College credits preferred.
3. Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with youth, with supervision experience preferred.
4. General knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
5. Knowledge of Access, Adobe PageMaker and Photoshop preferred.
6. Must be available to work Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
