Duties Description This Park Worker 3, SG-9 position will be located at Genesee Valley Greenway State Park in the Allegany Region. The Park Worker 3 will report directly to the Park Manager 1, SG-18 and will perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the operation, maintenance, and repair of the park. Duties may include, but are not limited to:- Supervise and train lower-level staff.- Perform skilled tasks in carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, or mechanical repairs.- Operate and maintain groundskeeping and maintenance equipment (e.g., mowers, tractors, snowplows, hand and power tools).- Assist with facility repairs, construction projects, and preventative maintenance.- Oversee and enforce applicable safety regulations and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).- Interact with the public to provide information and ensure a safe work environment.- Operate chainsaws and conduct tree pruning and removal; and assist with hazard tree program.- Perform invasive species and nuisance wildlife control duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications One year of experience in the operation and/or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility;OR - One year of experience in any of the following fields:- Law enforcement or security- Firefighting- Emergency Medical Services - Environmental education or stewardship- Natural resources management (e.g., forest management, wildlife management/preservation)- Historic preservation or interpretation- Landscaping or grounds maintenance OR - One year of military service in any branch of the United States Armed Forces;OR - Thirty (30) semester credit hours of college-level coursework from an accredited college or university;OR - Completion of a two-year technical/trades school program;OR - Two years of experience as a trade assistant working under the direct supervision of a skilled tradesperson.

Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.- Must have the ability to operate a chainsaw and must complete OPRHP sawyer training. This training will be provided by OPRHP. - Must possess or obtain a category 3A pesticide technician certification within the probationary period and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.- Must be able to work weekends and holidays to support special events.NOTE: The position is intended to be permanently stationed at Genesee Valley Greenway State Park in Allegany County. However, due to space limitations, the selected candidate will initially be temporarily assigned to Allegany State Park in Cattaraugus County. Candidates should apply with the understanding that this arrangement is temporary and that the permanent work location will be Genesee Valley Greenway State Park in Allegany County.
