Technical Support Aide (Acquisitions)

Duties And Responsibilities

The Acquisitions Technical Support Aide works in partnership with the Technical Services Division to help connect internal and external customers with the library materials they seek whether it is from a vendor or another library system. The Technical Support Aide provides information and clerical support to the Associates and Coordinator in order to facilitate the acquisition of materials. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Converts selection lists to purchase orders in SAP using data entry and Microsoft Office skills. Communicates progress with Associates and Coordinator.
  • Orders monthly and special lists for library agencies.
  • Retrieves information from the ILS, vendor websites, OCLC WorldShare and Internet search engines to verify, correct and/or add relevant data to customer requests. May also use other software such as but not limited to Microsoft Excel, Word, Virtua, Pitney Bowes and SAP.
  • Processes requests from other institutions for Queens Public Library material electronically and manually.
  • Handles incoming materials including lifting and opening boxes, checking contents against packing slips, matching materials with requests and preparing items for circulation.
  • Handles outgoing materials including closing requests, lifting boxes and preparing items for shipping.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma required. Associates Degree preferred.
  • Two years of customer service experience required.
  • Must have demonstrated experience in the following competencies: initiative, flexibility in approaching daily responsibilities, cooperative teamwork and modeling exemplary customer service.
  • Must be friendly, courteous, and professional and have strong interpersonal skills to support customer service.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, detail oriented, flexible and a self-starter required.
  • Commitment to serving all communities in the most diverse area of the country.
