DESCRIPTION:
The incumbent performs inspection work in securing compliance with laws relating to weights and measuring devices. These duties involve the responsibility for
inspecting weights and measuring devices to obtain compliance with established laws. The worker performs routine testing; and seals weighing and measuring
apparatus in accordance with laws regulating commerce. The work follows a normal routine with special assignments arising from claims of irregularities, weight,

measure or counts. Work is performed under the supervision of the Director of Weights and Measures. Does related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and one (1) year of experience in the maintenance, repair, or operation of measuring

and/or weighing devices or in the enforcement of laws pertaining to the inspection of such devices.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

Possession of a valid New York State driver's license at the time of appointment and throughout employment.

NOTE:

Additional education beyond high school in the physical sciences, engineering sciences, electronics sciences, mechanical technology and/or mathematics from a New

York State or regionally accredited college or university will be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Candidates will not have to take an exam for this title. This is a Hiring Emergency Limited Placement (HELP) Program-designated title.
The HELP Program is a temporary program designed to help local government employers address current staffing issues. Traditionally,
the titles filled under the HELP Program required job candidates to compete in a competitive exam to be considered for employment. For
the duration of the program, this title will be classified as non-competitive and categorized as a “HELP Program” position. At the close of
the program, this position will revert to competitive class status. Employees occupying positions filled through the HELP Program will be
granted competitive class status without the need to participate in a competitive exam.
