Org. Setting and ReportingThis position is located in the United Nations Office for Partnerships (UN Partnerships). Guided by the priorities of the UN Secretary-General, UN Partnerships is the gateway to the UN system to connect and co-create partnerships to deliver solutions to reach everyone, everywhere. In its role as a connector, UN Partnerships proactively engages, convenes and leverages stakeholders, initiatives and solutions in support of the Decade of Action to keep the promise of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). UN Partnerships oversees the SDG Advocates programme, the UN Fund for International Partnerships (UNFIP), and the UN Democracy Fund (UNDEF). The incumbent will support all initiatives of the UN Partnerships and report to the Chief of Section of UN Partnerships, and work closely with other members of the team. ResponsibilitiesWithin delegated authority, the Associate Public Information Officer may be responsible for the following duties: • Tracks, researches and analyzes information on assigned topics/issues; gathers information from diverse sources and helps to assess news value and other potential impact, as well as to evaluate the effectiveness of information campaigns. • Drafts/compiles a specific type or types (e.g. print, broadcast, etc.), of information communications products for target audiences, to include press releases, media packets and reports, brochures, briefings, video clips, newsletters, websites, etc. • Participates in developing and maintaining Information Systems project plans, schedules, and budgets. Assists in identifying appropriate human and technical resources to complete the project. • Participates in preparing user requirements and other technical specifications. • Organizes the clearance, production and distribution of information material; conducts photo and graphic research. • Prepares, drafts of articles or chapters for inclusion in UN newsletters, periodicals, reports and books. • In consultation with others identifies and proposes information opportunities, activities and approaches, taking into account the situation/topic and target audience. • Identifies key contacts/constituencies and opportunities for strategic partnerships to facilitate communication efforts and maintains working relationships with the same. • Organizes or participates in the organization of productions, broadcasts, conferences, seminar, press briefings, interviews, etc.; prepares briefing materials for senior officials prior to their participation in such events. • Responds to a variety of inquiries and information requests internally and externally; prepares related correspondence. • Contributes to the collection and analysis of data as well as identification of trends or patterns and provides draft insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods for data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting. • Provides administrative and substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., to include proposing agenda topics, identifying and proposed participants, preparation of background documents and presentations, handling logistics, etc. • Manage production, programme publication; produces materials for print/electronic/voice/visual media. • Performs other duties as assigned. EducationAn advanced university degree (Master’s or Doctorate degree, or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration or related fields is required. A first-level or advanced degree (Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate degree, or equivalent) with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree. Work ExperienceA minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, international relations, public administration or related area is required. No experience is required for candidates who have passed the United Nations Young Professionals Programme Examination (YPP), the United Nations National Competitive Recruitment Examination (NCRE) or the General Service to Professional Examination (G to P). Experience in video production and broadcast is required. Experience in organizing media and network partners in complex events is required. Experience in complex production design and creating content is required. A minimum of two years of experience in data analytics, including the collection, analysis, interpretation, and visualization of communications and public information data, is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this job opening, English is required.
