Role Purpose:
The position is for a staff scientist in the Inorganic Materials directorate with a focus of crystalline materials research. The projects will include research in new materials, i.e. new compositions and/or microstructures, for solid state electrolytes. The candidate will utilize modeling and high throughput exploration techniques to identify new ceramic materials with enhanced properties.
Key Responsibilities:
The candidate will conduct experimental work in the laboratory on solid state battery materials that includes formulation, producing samples at desired form factor, and characterizing key attributes. Candidate will collect and analyze data to inform the direction of research efforts. Candidate will interact with modeling teams to create predictive models based on experimental data. Results will be reported in internal documents and team presentations.
Experiences/Education - Required:
- Ph.D. in materials science, ceramic science and engineering, chemical engineering, or equivalent
- Strong knowledge in ceramic science with expertise in battery materials including lithium garnet, NASICON, and sulfides.
- Strong understanding of materials characterization techniques.
Experiences/Education - Desired:
- Skilled in the construction and testing of battery cells.
- Skilled in materials science including strong understanding of metals, glasses, single crystals and semiconductors.

The range for this position is $81,989.00 - $112,735.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
