Team & Role Overview

The engineering team at First Street is the backbone of our mission: using technology and data to help the world understand and adapt to climate risk. We’re an AI-native team building the backend services and infrastructure that power our global products—systems designed to scale, perform, and deliver data that matters.

As a Senior Software Engineer , you’ll help architect, build, and scale services that serve millions of users, integrate seamlessly with data pipelines, and support cloud infrastructure that enables our mission.

What You’ll Do

• Design and build backend API services in Go that scale to millions of users.

• Architect and improve infrastructure to support global product launches.

• Partner with data operations to integrate pipelines into backend systems.

• Work closely with the product team to ensure capabilities match customer requirements

• Contribute to cloud infrastructure and reliability engineering.

• Lead by example—raising the bar on developer experience and team practices.

• Deliver features that empower customers and advance First Street’s mission.

Technologies we use:

AWS, Go, Linux, Kubernetes, Mysql, Postgresql (+Postgis), Elasticsearch, Redis, Git, Docker, JavaScript, NodeJS, React JS, GraphQL, REST, and Python

What you’ll need:

• Deep experience in backend API development (with knowledge in GraphQL)

• Experience in systems integration

• Experience work with databases, either in Postgres or MySQL, including: debugging, optimizations, and queries

• Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience in Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Systems

What will make you stand out:

• Experience building and maintaining automated infrastructure

• Experience in an environment that adheres to SOC II and ISO 27001 Compliance Standards

Our anticipated US base salary compensation range for this role is $100,000-$180,000 plus competitive benefits package, which includes equity, 401(k), paid time off, paid parental leave, and comprehensive health benefits. Actual compensation will vary depending on factors such as work location as well as additional factors such as a candidate’s qualifications, skills, experience, competencies, and relevant education.
