School Monitor
Hawthorne Cedar Knolls Union Free School District is a Special Act School District located in the suburban Westchester community of Hawthorne. The District serves day students on our campus. HCKS specializes in educating students that are classified LD, ED, OD, OHI, SI, ID and TBI in grades K – 12+. The District follows State Education Department Laws and Regulations under Part 100 and 200 of the Commissioner of Education. Hawthorne Cedar Knolls UFSD is authorized by the NY State Education Department to issue its own Public High School Diploma.
The School Monitor performs a variety of non-teaching duties in overseeing safety and student activities in school building, school grounds and playground:
- Oversees and monitors student behavior by walking hallways, campus grounds, and cafeteria to ensure students are going to their classes;
- Supervises teacher aides
- Directs students to classrooms and assists them in following their schedules;
- Helps maintain order in classrooms and on school grounds by removing students in the event of unruly behavior;
- Takes attendance and searches for students who are on campus but not in assigned class;
- May assist teachers with supervision during recess and lunch periods;
MUST DEMONSTRATE THE ABILITY TO
- Ability to gain and hold the confidence of, and to maintain a patient and understanding attitude toward students;
- Ability to maintain order in classroomsand to enforce school regulations with firmness, tact, and impartiality;
- Ability to establish good working relationships with students and school personnel;
- Ability to keep simple records and to make reports;
- Good judgment;
- Basic technology skills and ability to become familiar with various software packages.
- Physical condition commensurate with the duties of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications required for a School Monitor position are either graduation from high school, or possession of a New York State high school equivalency diploma. A School Monitor should also have some combination of experience and training in overseeing the activities of children and/or teenagers is desirable. TCI training will be provided and required.
Starting Salary: $40,000, depending on experience, plus benefits.
