UAlbany seeks an enterprising fundraising professional to strengthen philanthropic support for the University, with a special emphasis on securing gifts to Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy and the School of Criminal Justice. The Director of Development will cultivate, solicit and steward donors capable of making gifts of $100,000 and higher and deepen alumni and donors' connection with UAlbany's current priorities.

The director will be responsible for engaging alumni and friends and designing and executing solicitations that secure support for the highest strategic priorities of the University, Rockefeller College, and the School of Criminal Justice. The director will collaborate with campus partners, in particular the Dean of Rockefeller College and the Senior Executive Director of the School of Criminal Justice, and develop coordinated strategies aimed at maximizing the engagement of a portfolio consisting of approximately 100 prospects.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of individuals through the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship cycles; forge relationships with a diverse population of prospects to secure gifts that advance the University, Rockefeller College, and the School of Criminal Justice to new levels of distinction.
  • Meet with prospects, often in tandem with the dean, senior executive director, and faculty members; work proactively to deepen prospects' engagement through substantive campus visits and other strategies.
  • Oversee the preparation of proposals, talking points, and briefings for the dean and senior executive director; ensure that all stakeholders are involved in key efforts focused on specific prospects.
  • Collaborate closely with the dean and senior executive director to identify and articulate their fundraising priorities.
  • Work with donor relations colleagues to ensure that donors are properly stewarded.
  • Collaborate with the associate vice president for planned giving to design prospect strategies for complex solicitations and identify appropriate giving vehicles.
  • Collaborate with the dean to manage the dean's advisory board, identifying and recruiting new members, and creating strategies and initiatives to deepen the board's engagement.
  • Maintain complete and timely records of contacts with prospects.
  • Other reasonable duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization.
  • At least three years of progressively responsible experience in development with a proven ability to engage individuals and secure gifts; the ability to inspire donors to provide significant philanthropic support.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in nonprofits or higher education soliciting and closing major gifts is preferred.
  • Master's degree from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization.

Professional Rank and Salary Range:
Associate Director of Fund Raising, SL4, $85,000-95,000
