Director of Litigation

Our client is a globally recognized law firm building something new: a Knowledge Management function within its Litigation practice. The person who takes this role will be its architect, a litigator by training who has moved into the space where legal expertise meets practice transformation.

The work spans litigation knowledge infrastructure, client intelligence, and practice development. This is a ground-floor opportunity to shape how a world-class disputes platform operates, competes, and delivers value to clients.

The Director will be a close partner to the Litigation BD function and will serve as the practice's central point of contact for a firmwide technology initiative, working alongside an internal Innovation team and embedded engineers to build litigation-specific capabilities.

What’s You’ll Do

Building the Knowledge Foundation

• Map the litigation practice's existing resources including brief banks, motion libraries, templates, expert databases, and practice guides, then develop a roadmap for what gets built next
• Create well-organized, searchable repositories of litigation work product that lawyers across offices and practice areas can actually use
• Produce practical resources: checklists, drafting guides, and template filings and motions tied to real matter needs
• Put governance in place so the library stays accurate, current, and relevant

Client-Facing Content and Market Intelligence

• Build and run a litigation market intelligence publication covering MDL activity, mass tort trends, regulatory enforcement, antitrust developments, and notable commercial litigation outcomes
• Develop supplementary materials including trend reports, practice briefings, and data-driven snapshots that BD and relationship partners can put in front of clients
• Collaborate with the Litigation BD Director to make sure content reaches the right people at the right moments

Litigation Data and Analytics

• Build a market data program tracking verdicts, settlements, MDL filings, enforcement actions, and other indicators relevant to the practice
• Develop a dashboard that gives partners real-time access to that data when they need it for client conversations and pitches
• Draw on Lex Machina, Bloomberg Law, Westlaw Edge, and similar platforms; identify where proprietary data assets need to be built

Training and Talent Development

• Build and deliver a training program for litigation attorneys at every level, from incoming summer associates through senior associate
• Capture institutional knowledge from significant matters and create systems for spreading it across the practice
• Develop playbooks and practice guides that help lawyers get up to speed on unfamiliar matter types or disciplines

Practice Leadership and Governance

• Align closely with practice group leaders and firm leadership on priorities and direction
• Design the staffing model for the function as it grows

What We’re Looking For

• A litigator first, with 5 to 15+ years of practice experience and meaningful time in a BigLaw environment
• Broad familiarity across litigation disciplines: mass torts, antitrust, complex commercial, white collar, and appellate
• Background in KM, legal operations, or practice innovation is a meaningful plus
• J.D. required
• Able to think in systems and design infrastructure that scales
• Strong writer and communicator, effective with both partners and firm leadership
• Comfortable building in ambiguity without a defined playbook
• Naturally collaborative across functions including BD, technology, practice management, and the lawyers themselves

Compensation and Location

Compensation is competitive with top legal and technology careers. xrczosw Location flexibility across major U.S. offices; preference for New York, Chicago, or Washington, D.C. Three days per week in-office.
