Position Overview:
The School District Physician will provide comprehensive medical services across the district's fifteen school locations. Responsibilities include conducting approximately 500 student physicals and 4,000 athletic physicals annually, overseeing medical policies, and participating in Committee on Special Education (CSE) meetings. Key Responsibilities:
✦Two high school locations for three days in August.
✦Two junior high school locations for three days in September.
✦Conduct student examinations at other school buildings by appointment
✦Review private physician physicals for athletic participation consent.
✦Act as final approval authority for students returning to athletic activity after injury.
✦Conduct special examinations as indicated by classroom teachers or school nurses.
✦Perform examinations for special class placement or exclusion of disabled children.
✦Review district policies for exclusion or re-admission of pupils with infectious diseases.
✦Assist in establishing emergency facilities and first aid training programs.
✦Develop and review district policies for injuries or emergencies.
✦Create printed first aid instructions for distribution throughout buildings.
✦Act as a consultant on medical problems and public health procedures.
✦Recommend educational program adjustments based on individual pupil health needs.
✦Implement, direct, and monitor health screening programs for pupils. Committee on Special Education (CSE) Responsibilities:
✦Attend CSE meetings as required (with a minimum of 3 days' notice).
✦Perform physical examinations of students referred to the CSE.
✦Provide written prescriptions for school counseling, skilled nursing services, and therapies.
✦Monitor prescriptions from other physicians and make recommendations. Qualifications:
✦Education: Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school.
✦Licensure: Valid and current New York State medical license.
✦Certification: American Board of Medical Specialities, American Osteopathic Association. Experience:
✦Experience conducting student and athletic physicals.
✦Demonstrated experience in similar engagements with school districts (references required).
✦Experience with physical examinations of school-aged children.
✦Knowledge of public health laws governing communicable diseases.
✦Familiarity with Special Education requirements and procedures.
✦Knowledge of athletic injury assessment and return-to-play protocols.
✦Experience in supervision of Athletic Trainers. Skills:
✦Emergency response and first aid protocol development expertise.
✦Ability to interpret and implement health screening programs.
✦Medical decision-making abilities for athletic participation clearance.
