Consultancy Title:Climate Resilience for Children -Knowledge & Communication Consultant

Division/Duty Station: PG CEED

Duration: 01 Jan 2026 – 15 Dec 2026

Home/ Office Based: Remote

BACKGROUND

Purpose of Activity/ Assignment:

UNICEF is scaling up action to protect children from the growing impacts of climate change, environmental degradation, and disasters. Through the Sustainability and Climate Change Action Plan (SCAP) 2023–2030, UNICEF works across all sectors—WASH, health, education, nutrition, social protection, and child protection—to build climate resilience, reduce risks, and promote sustainable development for every child.

The Climate Resilience Centre of Excellence for Children will serve as UNICEF’s global hub for policy, programming, technical assistance, and knowledge generation to strengthen climate resilience across social sectors. As the Centre is being established, a dedicated transition phase will ensure that knowledge management (KM) systems are in place to support all CoE functions—policy reform and programme design, climate finance, workforce development, humanitarian and resilience programming, equity and demand generation, and programme scale-up.

Effective KM is critical to the Centre’s success. It ensures that evidence, results, lessons learned, and promising practices from UNICEF’s global network are accessible, well-packaged, and used to inform decisions, strengthen programming, and inspire action at scale.

This consultancy will manage the Centre’s day-to-day KM functions during the transition phase, helping to design, organise, and operationalise systems that capture, store, and share knowledge across all functional areas. The consultant will work closely with the Strategic Content Consultant and thematic leads to identify, curate, and package high-value content—particularly from country office annual reports and other corporate processes—for use in global reporting, knowledge products, advocacy, and resource mobilisation.

By connecting with KM focal points across divisions, satellite teams, and country offices, the consultant will ensure a steady flow of high-quality, accessible knowledge products that position UNICEF as the global leader in child-sensitive climate resilience and enable the replication and scaling of successful interventions worldwide

Scope of Work

Under the supervision of the Programme Specialist in the Climate Resilience Centre of Excellence for Children, the consultant will:

Objective 1 – Support the transition to a fully operational CoE and establish integrated KM systems

  • Support the design and establishment of a comprehensive KM architecture for the CoE that serves all functional areas and satellite teams.
  • Develop and document KM workflows, content standards, and tagging systems to ensure consistency across all CoE functions.
  • Align the KM system with UNICEF’s global platforms to enable smooth information exchange between HQ, regional, and country teams.
  • Create a transition plan to migrate relevant CEED knowledge assets into the new CoE systems without loss of institutional memory.

Objective 2 – Strengthen the Centre’s KM systems and repositories

  • Maintain and regularly update the CoE’s SharePoint workspace, SCAP activity databases, and other repositories to ensure content is current, well-organized, and aligned with technical assistance workstreams.
  • Conduct quarterly reviews of key platforms (SharePoint, PPPx entries, technical hubs) to keep materials relevant and accessible.
  • Establish and maintain a structured repository of best practices, lessons learned, and case studies for use in policy engagement, programming, advocacy, and capacity-building.
  • Ensure content generated by the Strategic Content Consultant is archived, tagged, and retrievable.

Objective 3 – Identify and curate high-value content from UNICEF’s global network

  • Review and extract strong climate resilience examples from country office annual reports and other reporting for use in global results reports and advocacy.
  • Identify promising initiatives, innovations, and success stories from across sectors and regions that demonstrate policy impact, financing leverage, and resilience-building outcomes.
  • Maintain a pipeline of “feature-ready” content for use in the Centre’s knowledge products, global events, and donor engagement.

Objective 4 – Package and share knowledge for internal and external audiences

  • Collaborate with the Strategic Content Consultant to transform lessons learned and results into compelling products—case studies, newsletters, presentations, and online stories.
  • Update the technical knowledge hub and related external platforms with high-quality SCAP-related content, ensuring visibility across UNICEF and with partners.
  • Produce the bi-monthly “What’s New” newsletter with contributions from satellite teams, regional advisors, and technical specialists
  • Support the packaging of stories, images, and data for global events such as Earth Day, World Environment Day, International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, and COP.
  • Objective 5 – Support knowledge exchange and learning

    • Provide technical coordination for CoE-led webinars, including setup, content packaging, and archiving.
    • Maintain the CoE’s global climate resilience photo and multimedia database for storytelling and advocacy.
    • Share new tools, resources, and examples through the CoE’s communication channels to support continuous learning.
