Teaching Artist in Piano

Piano Teaching Artist (Freelance)
Location: Midtown Manhattan, New York City
Compensation: $40/hour
Job Type: Freelance / Independent Contractor

The MAD Institute, a growing hub for holistic arts education in New York City, is seeking a skilled and dedicated Piano Teaching Artist to provide individualized, in-person piano instruction to students of varying ages and skill levels.

This position is well suited for an experienced teaching artist, professional pianist, or graduate-level music student who is passionate about education, stylistic versatility, and meaningful artistic engagement.

Position Requirements:

• Must be able to teach both classical and jazz piano
• Must have consistent Saturday availability
• Availability for at least one additional weekday (aside from Saturday) will be given preference

Responsibilities:

• Provide one-on-one, in-person piano instruction tailored to each student’s goals and learning style
• Teach across multiple genres, with an emphasis on classical technique and jazz styles , including improvisation fundamentals
• Create a supportive, inclusive, and motivating learning environment
• Maintain a reliable and consistent weekly teaching schedule

Note: This is a freelance position. Teaching hours and student assignments are not guaranteed.

Qualifications:

• Strong background in piano performance and music education
• Experience teaching students of various ages and skill levels
• Demonstrated ability to teach both classical and jazz repertoire
• Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills
• Advanced degree or formal training in piano or music (preferred)

Preferred / Bonus Qualifications:

• Ability to teach a second instrument

Location:

All instruction takes place in person at our Midtown Manhattan studio, conveniently located near major transit lines.
