Senior Backend Engineer, Fixed Route

As a Senior Backend Engineer at Via, you’ll play a key role in developing a new product that helps transit agencies deliver reliable and efficient service to their communities. You’ll design and implement robust, scalable backend systems from the ground up, ensuring they integrate seamlessly into Via’s ecosystem of tools and products.
This is a unique opportunity to work on a greenfield project while leveraging the strengths of an established platform. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you’ll tackle complex technical challenges, shaping a solution that enhances the daily operations of transit agencies and improves the rider experience.
What You'll Do:
- Design, build, and maintain scalable backend systems for a new product that integrates with Via’s platform.
- Own backend features end-to-end, from architecture and implementation to deployment and maintenance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable and impactful solutions.
- Drive technical discussions, make architectural decisions, and ensure best practices are followed.
- Debug, troubleshoot, and resolve backend issues to ensure system uptime and performance.
- Research and implement tools, frameworks, and processes to improve backend reliability and efficiency.
Who You Are:
- Minimum of 4 years of experience designing and building robust backend systems for production environments.
- Expertise in developing and maintaining APIs, distributed systems, and efficient database architectures.
- Familiar with cloud platforms, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform).
- Skilled in system design, debugging, and performance optimization.
- Strong communicator and collaborator, with a focus on delivering clean, maintainable, and reliable code.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Final salary will be determined by the candidate’s experience, knowledge, and skills. Salary reflected does not include equity or variable pay, where applicable
- Salary Range: $150,000 - $200,000 per year
