Founded in 1971 in Long Island City, Queens **,** LaGuardia Community College is one of seven community colleges of the City University of New York (CUNY). LaGuardia offers more than sixty associate degree programs and more than fifty workforce training, ESOL, GED, and pre-college programs. In 2023, LaGuardia served approximately 24,000 students. More than one-third of LaGuardia’s degree-seeking students are born outside the United States; they come from 136 countries and speak 43 heritage languages. Sixty percent are first-generation college students.
Virtually all LaGuardia students are ethnic minorities (89 percent), 58 percent are women, 27 percent are over the age of 25. Forty-six percent of associate degree students are Hispanic. Upon graduation most students transfer to four-year colleges, typically in CUNY, to complete their baccalaureate degrees. Graduates of career programs such as Nursing, Computer Technology, and Veterinary Technology enter the workforce. LaGuardia ranked fifth among U.S. community colleges in economic mobility – moving low-income students into the middle class and beyond – in studies by Stanford University (2017) and the Brookings Institution (2020).Please visit to learn more.
Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP) helps motivated community college students earn degrees as quickly as possible, with a goal of graduating at least 50% of students within three years. Key ASAP program features include a consolidated block schedule, cohorts by major, required full-time study, mandatory tutoring, and comprehensive advisement and career development services. Financial incentives include tuition waivers for financial aid-eligible students and free use of textbooks and monthly MetroCards for all students. Further information is available at
Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs, the ASAP Director oversees all activities related to ASAP and represents the College's ASAP program within and outside the College. The ASAP Director is responsible, but not limited to, the following:
+ Develops and implements policy to meet the Program's mission, collaborating with other College units.
+ Administers a comprehensive portfolio of services, and assesses the various components of the ASAP program to improve services to students.
+ Provides a highly supportive environment by overseeing staff such as advisors and job developers and by developing relevant programs, workshops, and activities.
+ Manages tracking, reporting, and analysis of outcomes data, and systems to track and manage individual students' progress.
+ Develops, assesses and improves a comprehensive program of academic advising, career and professional development, and other support and financial aid services.
+ Develops, implements and assesses strategies to improve retention and performance of ASAP students
+ Evaluates program services and developing interventions for probation and at-risk students
+ Oversees program's budget and daily administration including scheduling and timely delivery of services
+ Establishes and maintains relationships across campus to ensure recruitment, advisement, tutoring, professional development and financial aid processes are student focused and inclusive.
+ Oversees recruitment of new students into the program on a semester basis Prepare reports for CUNY Office ASAP Program and college leadership Supervise three Associate Directors who in turn supervise all other staff.
+ Attend monthly meetings at CUNY Central, and other periodic program events
+ Participates in campus wide collaborations to enhance student experiences
+ Other responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Dean.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in an appropriate discipline and eight years related experience.
The preferred candidate will have:
- Demonstrated management and supervisory skills as well as budget oversight and planning experience
- Strong understanding of the needs and challenges facing students from diverse urban backgrounds
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, within the department and with faculty and other administrators
- Strong organization, project management, communication, and facilitation skills
- Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records of student activities
- Computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office Suite and aptitude to learn new systems as needed
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
+ Understanding of engagement, retention and adult learning theories.
+ Strong understanding of the advisement needs of community college students.Excellent written and oral communication skills.Experience working in special programs and/or with a cohort model.Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Salary: $109,898 - $136,546
Salary commensurate with education and experience.
