Afterschool Program Director (DYCD, SONYC, SACC, Summer Rising)

GINYC is seeking a dedicated and experienced Program Director to lead our DYCD SONYC after-school program at a Brooklyn middle school site , ensuring SACC licensing compliance and fostering a safe, engaging, and empowering environment for students.
Job Overview:
The Program Director is responsible for the overall success of the DYCD SONYC after-school program, ensuring it operates efficiently, aligns with organizational goals, and meets all compliance and licensing requirements. This includes program development, staff supervision, partnership management, and regulatory oversight under SACC and DYCD guidelines. This role also includes leading our Summer Rising programming each year, requiring flexibility with scheduling and location adjustments during the summer months. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Brooklyn . The school-year schedule is Monday–Friday, 10:00 AM–6:00 PM, with additional evening and weekend availability required based on program needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Leadership & Development
● Design, implement, and oversee a high-quality DYCD SONYC after-school program aligned with GINYC’s mission and quality standards.
● Ensure all curriculum, facilitation, and programming reflect best practices in youth development and meet SACC licensing requirements.
● Develop and evaluate programming across key focus areas, including STEM, SEL, leadership, literacy, wellness, career exploration, and sports & adventure.
● Implement engaging, culturally responsive, and gender-equitable curriculum that is LGBTQ+ inclusive and age-appropriate.
● Lead the full implementation of Summer Rising each year, including summer staff schedules, compliance, student experience, and logistics.
● Ensure enrollment targets, attendance benchmarks, and curriculum fidelity are met.
● Maintain a daily presence on site and oversee operations to ensure safety, quality, and compliance.
Staff Supervision & Training
● Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate a team of 8+ staff members to deliver effective, engaging programming.
● Develop and manage staff schedules to ensure appropriate coverage and adherence to staff-to-student ratios.
● Facilitate regular team meetings, professional development, and performance check-ins.
● Provide coaching and support around classroom management, facilitation, and student engagement.
● Address performance or conduct issues with professionalism and adherence to GINYC protocols.
Compliance & Safety (DYCD & SACC)
● Ensure full compliance with SACC licensing including staff credentialing, training, health/safety protocols, and emergency preparedness.
● Maintain up-to-date staff files and coordinate with HR for background checks and renewals.
● Ensure adherence to all DYCD SONYC requirements such as accurate attendance, incident reporting, and data entry.
● Lead the implementation of safety drills, behavior protocols, and crisis management plans.
Partnership & Community Engagement
● Build and sustain strong relationships with school administration, teachers, families, and community partners.
● Serve as the primary liaison to the host school and coordinate joint initiatives, space use, and issue resolution.
● Plan and lead family engagement events and student showcases to highlight program impact.
● Represent GINYC at community meetings and events as needed.
Data Management & Evaluation
● Oversee and ensure timely, accurate data entry for attendance and compliance in multiple databases, such as Compass/EMS.
● Conduct program evaluations, needs assessments, and use data to improve quality and outcomes.
● Submit timely reports to DYCD, SACC, and GINYC leadership.
● Manage program budgets, track grant deliverables, and oversee purchasing within allocated funds.
Qualifications and Skills:
Education & Experience
● Bachelor's degree required (Education, Social Work, Youth Development, or related field); Master’s degree preferred.
● Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in youth development, education, or after-school programming.
● Direct experience working with DYCD-funded programs and SACC-licensed sites strongly
preferred.
● Experience leading summer programs or DOE Summer Rising a plus.
Leadership & Management
● Proven ability to supervise and develop a team in a school or youth program setting.
● Skilled in problem-solving, team-building, and conflict resolution.
● Ability to manage program logistics, compliance requirements, and timelines.
Communication & Interpersonal
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
● Ability to build rapport and maintain professional relationships with youth, staff, families, and school stakeholders.
● Strong commitment to staff development and student-centered leadership.
Commitment & Flexibility
● Passion for girls’ leadership, gender equity, and youth empowerment.
● Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed.
● A minimum three-year commitment to the role is preferred.
Additional Requirements:
● Must pass all background checks required for working with youth.
● Must complete all SACC training and certification requirements upon hire.
● Must be able to travel within NYC and attend off-site training or events as required.
● Must contribute to maintaining a gender-equitable, inclusive, and affirming environment for all students.
Compensation & Benefits:
● Salary Range: $68,000–$75,000 (commensurate with experience)
