The School of Graduate Studies is dedicated to advancing research in the creative industries and fostering collaboration and dialogue that links faculty and students to outstanding professionals and practitioners.

The Masters of Professional Studies in Cosmetics and Fragrance Marketing and Management program provides advanced education for emerging executives and is a think tank of innovative leadership for the industry it serves. The program develops holistic leaders with dual competencies in creative, research, and analytical business skills through both academic and experiential learning. Students obtain a global perspective of business through field studies in multiple overseas markets and develop agility with leadership skills through an Executive Mentor program that is part of the graduate curriculum. The curriculum facilitates the development of empathic leaders to shepherd brands that are global corporate citizens and must delight and inspire the end consumer.

Job Description:

The School of Graduate Studies seeks a full-time faculty member in Cosmetics and Fragrance Marketing and Management (CFMM) with demonstrated research and business skills in the beauty industry across a broad spectrum of the industry, and a demonstrated record of achievement and thought leadership in market research, consumer insights, identification of trends and market insights, and presenting these to industry leaders to guide business decision-making. Experience in market research should encompass both qualitative and quantitative research, the management of focus groups, as well as developing professional insights reports and presentations for industry consumption.

The new faculty member will serve an essential faculty leadership role in the expansion and implementation of the college's first research center: The Beauty Center at FIT. The new faculty member will also be a key contributor in the continued development of new graduate curricular offerings in the Department, executive education for-credit offerings and workshops at the Beauty Center at FIT, and a key leadership role with the CFMM Alumni Association. Teaching responsibilities will encompass all coursework and programming involving market research, consumer behavior and market insights, including global market insights and field study courses, market research strategy and consumer behavior coursework, and the qualitative and quantitative research involved with the Capstone research annually. The new faculty member's work with the Beauty Center at FIT will include identifying opportunities for collaborative research projects and product testing with industry, focus groups, research seminars utilizing internal and partner research, and executive development workshops. Preference will be given to candidates with global expertise and a track record of mentorship to emerging mid-career to executive-level talent, as well as a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the beauty industry.

The position requires a combination of demonstrated management of senior executive-level research for brands and across the sectors of industry, and demonstrated capability and experience at management of both human and capital resources in the research process. The successful candidate will possess a network of global industry contacts at a senior management level and demonstrate capability to organize collaborative research and market field visits with these contacts independently.

The new faculty member's responsibilities will include teaching, leadership of the Beauty Center at FIT, and cultivation of industry and alumni partnerships. The candidate will have teaching and/or corporate training experience, a record of scholarly or industry research and contributions to the field that include some or all of the following: publications, presentations, lectures, and involvement in professional activities. The candidate will demonstrate the ability to mentor student/faculty research projects and publication-level classroom deliverables.

The ideal candidate will have a versatile and interdisciplinary outlook and the ability to work collaboratively with the department Chairperson and adjunct faculty, as well as a range of colleagues, students, and external stakeholders. The successful candidate will participate in department and college-wide work and shared governance, and be expected to serve on committees as necessary and must commit to advancing the department in ways that align with the goals of the FIT Future//Forward Plan .

  • Cultivate and maintain connections with the beauty industry to allow for the integration of new professional practices into the curriculum.

  • Demonstrated background and experience in research design, implementation, analysis, findings, insights, recommendations and strategy.
  • Ability to transfer best practices to students on primary research (qualitative and quantitative methods), secondary research, data analysis, deducing findings and insights, and developing recommendations and strategies.
Research Management
  • Demonstrated experience in managing research projects, resources and people.
  • Leverage industry experience in various ways, from teaching and mentoring to external outreach and partnership project development.
Alumni Relations and Industry Outreach
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop a robust CFMM Alumni Association that includes professional and executive development, student mentorship, and career development.
  • Demonstrate the ability to leverage own global network of industry contacts to further the work of the Beauty Center at FIT, its research efforts and contributions to the students.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Graduate degree (MBA, MPS, MPA, MSc, MPhil, MEd, JD, PhD, ScD, DPhil, EdD or equivalent), relevant beauty industry experience, and a demonstrated record of market research expertise as well as graduate or executive-level teaching and/or relevant corporate learning and development/training experience.
  • Experience in presenting research to senior executive-level industry leadership and mentoring others in the preparation and presentation of industry research.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Senior-level background in market research and analysis, experience devising field and industry research, and the requisite global network to independently devise and organize research initiatives with industry.
  • Highly visible and respected industry thought leader and research practice leader in the beauty sector with some graduate-level teaching, and some experience in the area of curriculum development, advising graduate-level research and/or industry research, and mentoring executive students in the delivery of these outcomes.
  • The demonstrated ability to translate research into actionable insights and trends, and relate them to individual business issues or brand strategy.
  • A record of publications, industry presentations, participation and presentation at industry trade shows and executive-level industry gatherings, service on industry boards and other leadership in industry.
  • Evidence of corporate training, corporate marketing and PR/promotional experience related to beauty and experience with multiple categories of the business is highly preferred, including serving as spokesperson or industry expert to press on research findings.
  • A demonstrated commitment and leadership in inclusion in the beauty industry.

The final starting salary and appointment rank will be based on education level and cumulative experience; Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) Salary Schedules pgs. 73-74.

Instructor: $69,346.37 - $80,793.82
Assistant Professor: $80,736.40 - $118,984.88
Associate Professor: $94,498.31 - $142,271.78
Professor: $115,232.32 - $173,403.37

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

The working conditions for this position will be any combination of the classroom, lab, and/or office space. Certain roles may be required to handle machinery and chemicals. The physical requirement for this position will require occasional sitting, constant standing, occasional bending, frequent walking, and occasionally lifting 10 lbs. or less.
