Budget Title: Instructional Support Technician (SL-3)
Salary: $80,000
Binghamton University is seeking a creative and collaborative Instructional Developer and Designer to support the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of high-quality, engaging, and inclusive online courses. Working as part of the instructional design and technology team, the instructional developer/designer builds, tests, and maintains course content and learning assets in the university's Learning Management System (LMS) and related platforms. The ideal candidate will work closely with faculty, subject matter experts, and academic units to apply instructional best practices grounded in learning theory and pedagogy. This role plays a key part in advancing our mission to deliver transformative and accessible online education.
Key Responsibilities:

Build and maintain online course content in the LMS (BrightSpace) based on instructional design plans and faculty input.

Ensure all course content meets university accessibility standards and is compatible across devices and browsers.

Collaborate with faculty and academic departments to design online courses and programs grounded in research-based instructional practices.

Apply instructional design models (e.g., backward design, UDL) to ensure alignment between learning objectives, assessments, and instructional materials.

Guide the development of course maps, learning activities, and assessments that support student engagement and success.

Recommend and integrate instructional technologies to enhance learning.

Conduct course reviews and ensure compliance with accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG, Section 508).

Provide consultation and training for faculty on instructional design principles and online teaching strategies.

Maintain documentation and support the continuous improvement of online offerings.
Job Requirements:
-
Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related field

At least two (2) years of experience designing online or hybrid courses in higher education

Knowledge of learning theories, pedagogy, and instructional design models

Demonstrated experience working with faculty or subject matter experts

Experience with LMS platforms

Experience with multimedia and content development tools (e.g., Articulate, Camtasia, Adobe Creative Cloud)

Effective communication, collaboration, and project management skills
Preferred:
-
Experience with quality assurance frameworks (e.g., Quality Matters or OSCQR)

Working knowledge of accessibility and universal design principles

Experience in faculty development or training

Experience with the LMS platform BrightSpace
