Senior Claims Specialist- Construction and Defect

Zurich is currently seeking a Claims Professional to join our Construction Defect team. This position can sit in our Schaumburg or Parsippany, NJ or New York, NY. This is an opportunity to apply your commercial claims subject matter expertise regarding large exposures, complex coverages, and litigated matters.

As a member of our team, you will manage a claims caseload from assignment through resolution, with moderate direction from your team manager and Claims executives. At this level, you will provide technical claims service on primarily litigated claims of moderate to high exposure and complexity under general liability, excess, and other coverages. This role requires significant policy interpretation and coverage analysis; exposure evaluation; retention and management of counsel and other vendors; collaboration with internal and external contacts, including underwriters, customers, and brokers; negotiation and claim resolution; and management of all communications and reporting associated with the life of a claim.

Some business travel (5-10%) may be required.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree and 6 or more years of experience in the Claims and/ or Litigation Management area.
  OR
• Juris Doctor and 2 or more years of experience in the Claims and/ or Litigation Management area.
  OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice, including an Associate Degree with 6 or more years of experience in the Claims and/ or Litigation Management area.
  OR
• Completion of Zurich Claims Training Program and 5 or more years of experience in the Claims and/ or Litigation Management area.
  OR
• High School Diploma Equivalent and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims and/ or Litigation Management area.
  AND
• Must obtain and maintain required adjuster license(s)
• Microsoft Office experience
• Knowledge of insurance regulations, markets and products

Preferred Qualifications:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.)
• 5 or more years of experience in claim handling and/or insurance defense that includes Construction Defect
• Negotiation experience
• Strong analytical skills
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to multi-task and adapt to a changing environment
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Ability to collaborate across work groups
• Knowledge of the insurance industry, claims, and the insurance legal and regulatory environment
• Knowledge of claims handling or insurance legal statutes and procedures

Your pay at Zurich is based on your role, location, skills, and experience. We follow local laws to ensure fair compensation. You may also be eligible for bonuses and merit increases. The proposed Salary range for this position is $83,400.00 - $155,200.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 15%.
