Kat + Mouse Photography is a high-end portrait studio in St. James, NY, specializing in transformative, luxury portrait experiences. Our clients—primarily women ages 35 to 60—come to us for more than a photo. They come for confidence, connection, and a guided journey that celebrates who they are.
Hair and makeup artistry is the first and most impactful part of that experience—and we’re looking for a warm, talented artist to join our team.
About the Role
We’re seeking a contract-based Makeup Artist to provide one-hour hair and makeup sessions for our clients before their portrait shoots. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a luxury, client-focused environment, has strong attention to detail, and brings a calm, supportive energy to every session.
Responsibilities
- Complete camera-ready makeup and light hairstyling within 1 hour per client
- Create a welcoming, relaxing, and empowering prep experience
- Perform light hairstyling: curling, straightening, teasing for volume (no cutting/blowouts)
- Maintain strict hygiene and cleanliness standards for all tools and products
- Provide light touch-ups as needed throughout the session
- Work with a variety of skin tones and ages confidently
- Follow brand protocols: warm, encouraging communication; neutral topics (no politics or religion); calm studio demeanor
Qualifications
- Must hold a current NY State Esthetician or Cosmetology license
- Proven experience as a professional makeup artist (portfolio or IG required)
- Experience with light hairstyling
- Understanding of what translates well on camera (flash and studio lighting)
- Strong interpersonal and listening skills
- Punctuality and professionalism are a must
- Freelance/contract availability on Fridays (and occasional Tue/Sat)
What We Offer
- $25-80/hour contract rate
- 3-hour minimum payment per session
· Applicants will be asked to perform a makeup trial prior to being assigned client jobs.
- All appointments scheduled in advance—you choose the dates that fit your availability
- Studio located at 448 Lake Ave, St. James, NY
