Duties Description The New York State Education Department's (NYSED) Office of Cultural Education is seeking candidates for an Education Program Assistant 1 (SG-14) position to join the team responsible for the New York State Summer School of the Arts programs. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: - Assist in preparing and editing reports, plans, presentations, documents, meeting agendas and notes, and other materials;- Review project proposals, reports, budgets, and applications for completeness and compliance with requirements;- Communicate by phone and in writing with schools, institutions of higher education, non-profit organizations, parents, and others to gain, verify, or provide information;- Assist in preparation and monitoring of RFPs and other competitive procurements related to the NYS Summer School of the Arts, including preparation of materials; tracking processes, applications, and deadlines; and evaluating proposals and budgets;- Assist with projects, including collecting, reviewing, and analyzing information and data; drafting and managing project documents; and related tasks to ensure program goals are met;- Updating and maintaining databases and archival records;- Related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: NY HELPS This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.NON-COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS candidates must meet the open-competitive minimum qualifications for this position. The qualifications are:Education Trainee 1: Two years of experience performing a variety of activities in support of developing, implementing, regulating, and maintaining programs by developing historical or statistical data and evaluating applications and transcripts.Education Trainee 2: Three years of experience performing a variety of activities in support of developing, implementing, regulating, and maintaining programs by developing historical or statistical data and evaluating applications and transcripts.Education Program Assistant 1: Four years of experience performing a variety of activities in support of developing, implementing, regulating, and maintaining programs by developing historical or statistical data and evaluating applications and transcripts.*An associate degree may substitute for two years of experience; a bachelor's degree may substitute for four years of experience; a master's degree may substitute for five years of experience; and a doctorate may substitute for six years of experience.COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Reassignment: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Education Program Assistant 1.Eligible List Appointment (Public Administration Traineeship Transition Program, Professional Career Opportunities): Candidates must be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for this title. Section 70.1 Transfer to Education Trainee 2, Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title 11 or above deemed eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a contingent permanent, competitive appointment or a contingent permanent, non-competitive appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees' negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Verification of education and experience will be required at the time of interview for all candidates. This position allows for the opportunity to telecommute up to 30% each bi-weekly pay period and is granted at the discretion of the supervisor and the appointing office. This position will require 40% in-state/Statewide travel.This position leads to a maximum salary of $68,630based on annual performance advances. For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position.
