East Meadow Farm Facilities Coordinator

This position will serve as the East Meadow Farm (EMF) Facilities Coordinator for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Nassau County. Primary responsibilities will include, but not be limited to: cleaning and maintaining the Association’s grounds and physical facilities to ensure the safety of staff, volunteers, participants, and the public; follow daily, weekly and monthly cleaning schedules; mowing; snow removal; repairs; minor carpentry and construction projects; maintenance of equipment; storing rental vehicles; set up/breakdown for programs and events; and coordinating facility needs with the Association Program Leader and/or designated staff/volunteers. The position will assist at the Dorothy P. Flint (DPF) 4-H Camp and CCE-NC Headquarters in Eisenhower Park as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree or Equivalent Education (GED/High School Diploma and one year of transferrable program/functional experience).
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License and the ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
  • Ability to operate a tractor and related equipment.
  • Physical ability to do heavy lifting, shovel snow, and carry supplies and equipment.
  • Ability to climb and perform work from a ladder.
  • Knowledge of cleaning, maintenance, and repair methods, materials, and techniques applicable to public buildings.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide cleaning, maintenance, and repair work.
  • Ability to identify and address safety concerns in the work place.
  • Reliability and competence with building mechanicals and plumbing operations.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with commercial maintenance and repair services on occasion.
  • Ability and willingness to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and assume responsibility with general guidelines and direction.
  • Ability to plan and organize work responsibilities according to priorities developed with the immediate supervisor.
  • Ability to work effectively with the public and co-workers.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

Administrative Responsibilities:

Direction and Management - 15%

  • Assist in preparing seasonal work plans.
  • Assist with developing building and equipment maintenance schedules.
  • Assist with creation of emergency preparedness plans.
  • Assist with planning for facility, equipment, and grounds including, but not limited to: maintenance records, fire extinguisher and heating system, annual maintenance, winterization of buildings and equipment.
  • Assist with managing building equipment and maintenance schedules.
  • Assist with managing emergency preparedness plans.
  • Assist with aligning resources to identify contractors and outside vendors for identified needs.
  • Assist in ensuring a healthy and safe site for programs by ensuring established policies and procedures are followed.
  • Assist with safety checks including, but not limited to: smoke alarms, fire extinguishers, and AED.

Coordination/Operation - 80%

  • Perform general maintenance and custodial duties as directed. Duties include but are not limited to: basics repairs and carpentry, tending to grounds, farm production and animals, painting, cleaning, sealing, cleaning kitchen and bathroom, emptying garbage, lawn mowing, weed whipping, etc.
  • Assist in updating and maintaining the health and safety plan as it pertains to facility operations.
  • Assist with maintaining written plans and records for facility, equipment, and grounds including, but not limited to: maintenance records, fire extinguisher and heating system, annual maintenance, winterization of buildings and equipment.
  • Facilitate routine ordering of cleaning supplies, building materials, maintenance items, etc. to ensure adequate supplies and materials are available to conduct grounds keeping and custodial tasks.
  • Collaborate with the Association Program Leader to keep an inventory of all supplies and equipment.
  • Comply with established health and safety regulations and guidelines including OSHA/PESHA regulations.
  • Safely operate all vehicles and other job related equipment.
  • Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies.
  • Record use and storage of all chemicals and cleaners as required.
  • In collaboration with Supervisor, maintain all equipment operating manuals and maintenance records.
  • Interact with clientele, staff, volunteers, and the public in a courteous and respectful manner at all times.
  • Collaborate with supervisor to schedule contractors, volunteers, or other resources to address facility, maintenance, and storage needs.
  • Work collaboratively with Supervisor to provide input on necessary and required maintenance tasks.
  • Set up chairs, tables, bleachers, or any other equipment as specified by Supervisor.
  • Clean and maintain appliances and equipment such as refrigerators, stoves, hot water heaters, lawn mowers, tractors, floor scrubbers, etc.
  • Assist with arranging for and performing deliveries and errands.
  • Provide general maintenance and repairs, such as minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, roofing, flooring, and painting as required. Alert supervisor of any major problems or repairs needed.
  • Remove snow and ice from walks, roofs, driveways, and parking lot as needed.
  • Maintain lawn and landscaping as needed.
  • Collaborate with Supervisor and staff to ensure the buildings and grounds are prepared for educational programming, including but not limited to: Annual Farmers Market, Family Fun Fair, etc.
  • Take garbage and recycling out weekly.

Professional Improvement and Other Duties as Assigned - 5%

  • In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and association priorities.
  • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Extension programs and other duties as assigned.
  • Participate in all required orientation, training, and/or in-service meetings and trainings as scheduled/required.

  • Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
  • Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.

POSITION DETAILS:

This position is a part-time, non-exempt position, 10 hours per week, 25% FTE. The hourly rate for this position is $20.00 to $22.00 commensurate with experience.
