Production assistant and pattern maker
BERTHOLLET NYC is a growing fashion development studio specializing in patternmaking, sample sewing, small-scale production, and tech packs for independent designers and small brands. With a focus on quality, fit, and personalized service, we help bring client visions to life—from first sketch to final sample.
Position Overview
We’re seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented assistant to support the development of patterns, fittings, and small-scale production prep. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys the technical side of garment development, has a strong eye for fit, and is comfortable working in a fast-moving studio environment. You’ll work directly with the lead patternmaker throughout the development process.
Responsibilities
- Support patternmaking tasks (adjustments, tracing, digitizing, organizing)
- Assist with fittings (taking notes, pinning/marking, communicating corrections)
- Prep projects for small-scale production (cutting fabric, organizing trims and materials, bundling)
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient workspace
- Assist with client projects and occasional sample sewing as needed
- Help with studio operations and general tasks when required
Requirements
- Proven experience with patternmaking basics (flat pattern adjustments, tracing, and fit corrections)
- Strong understanding of garment construction and fit
- Detail-oriented, organized, and dependable
- Comfortable working independently in a quiet, focused environment
- Strong communication skills and openness to feedback
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator
Bonus Skills
- Experience in a patternmaking for small production studio
- Familiarity with a variety of fabric types
- Sewing skills (for occasional sample support)
- Knowledge of tech pack components
Compensation
This is a contract, per-project role. Pay is calculated per project, and effective hourly rate will vary depending on project complexity and how quickly the work is completed.
