Position Summary
WMF is seeking applications for the 2025-2027 Bonnie Burnham Fellowship. The Burnham Fellow will provide programmatic, administrative, and communications support for the World Monuments Watch, a nomination-based program that spotlights places and communities where heritage is poised to make an important impact on our global society. By mobilizing individuals, communities, and leaders across the field, the Watch encourages action to preserve places worldwide and leverage heritage for local benefit.
Reporting to the Program Manager overseeing the World Monuments Watch, the Fellow will also support the Watch Network (a professional community providing events and resources to Watch collaborators) and contribute to administrative and databasing activities within WMFs broader Programs department. This Fellowship is a full-time, paid position for 24 months and offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a flagship WMF program, gain hands-on experience in international cultural heritage preservation, and engage with a global network of practitioners.
Responsibilities
For the World Monuments Watch program:
Assist in creating program materials, including descriptions, guidelines, outreach materials, and nomination and review forms.
Help publicize the call for nominations, including conducting research to expand program reach and identify potential nominations.
Coordinate the review process with WMF staff and partners and provide assistance to nominators and reviewers.
Participate in planning meetings for the review and selection of submitted nominations with internal and external participants.
Collaborate with the Program Manager and WMF's Communications team on publicity materials, including WMF's website and World Monuments magazine.
Maintain and update data on the Watch program, tracking progress and reporting results for internal distribution and external communication.
For the Watch Network:
Help organize online webinars, trainings, and events for network members.
Respond to inquiries and facilitate connections between network members.
Program and distribute periodic network newsletters.
Work across WMF departments to define and align network priorities.
Additional responsibilities:
Manage and update project databases to support program tracking, evaluation, and reporting.
Provide research and writing assistance for WMF project reporting and materials.
Contribute to thematic research as part of the expansion of WMFs role in thought leadership.
Qualifications
Graduate degree in a field relevant to the mission of World Monuments Fund (e.g., Historic Preservation, Cultural Heritage Management, Heritage Studies, Archaeology, Anthropology, Urban Planning, or related fields).
1-2+ years of professional experience in an office or non-profit environment, including experience managing or maintaining data systems or databases.
Willingness to make a commitment of 24 months to World Monuments Fund.
Demonstrated interest in cultural heritage preservation and its international dimensions, with knowledge in the areas of climate change policy, sustainable tourism, inclusive heritage, emergency preparedness and response, or post-conflict recovery.
Computer fluency in the Microsoft Office environment (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint); experience with database systems (e.g., Airtable) or CRM tools is a plus.
Have Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
Be highly organized and detail-oriented, including demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Be comfortable working in an international environment and with a broad and diverse range of individuals.
Be warm, professional, and engaging manner in interactions with external constituents.
