Assistant Cook

The Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club seeks to enrich and enhance the quality of life for young people by providing educational and developmental programs to youngsters between ages 6-18 who come from disadvantaged or disenfranchised circumstances. Part of the nationwide Boys & Girls Club movement, Kips Bay is a multi-service, multi-site, non-profit organization in the Bronx, NY that serves over 12,000 children, and over a thousand older adults in the community in a year.
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Assistant Cook plays an essential role in supporting the daily operations of the Kips Bay Castle Hill Senior Center food program. This position ensures that meals are prepared and served safely, efficiently and in accordance with nutritional and sanitation standards. The ideal candidate is reliable, team-oriented, and passionate about contributing to the well-being of our Older Adults in our community.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
- Assist Cook in all areas of preparation and Food service
- Move , unpack, and properly store food and supply deliveries
- Maintain accurate daily Food temperature logs and ensure compliance with all Health and safety regulations
- Record daily Food usage and assist with physical monthly inventory and reporting
- Clean and sanitize under DOH standards all areas in the kitchen, equipment, and utensils daily
- In the absence of the Head Cook, assume all responsibilities for cooking and serving meals
- Supervise kitchen staff in the absence of Head Cook
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor or site director
Requirements
- Valid Food Handler’s Certificate or training earned
- CPR Certification a plus, but training will be given upon hired
- Ability to read, write, speak English, and use basic computer programs for reporting and recordkeeping
- Must be physically able to stand for extended periods and lift heavy equipment or supplies if needed
- Strong communication skills and a team-player attitude
- Must be personable and sensitive to the needs of the Older Adults
- Prior experience in Food service or a senior center environment preferred, but not mandatory
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and time management skills
SALARY: $19.00 per hour – 30 hours per week
