About the Position
Job Title: Emergency Department Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Emergency Duration: 14 weeks Shift: Part Time Day/Night shifts as needed Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 2 years in the Emergency Department License: Current RN Licensure Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, Stroke Certification Must-Have: 1 year of acute hospital experience as a registered professional nurse Description: The Emergency Department Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills. The nurse delivers high-quality compassionate care to patients and families. The ED RN assesses patient needs, identifies urgent or emergent care priorities, and collaboratively provides direct care. The ED RN applies appropriate interventions and evaluates patient progress. The ED RN evidences skill in using various invasive and non-invasive procedures. The RN manages life-threatening and routine emergency situations. The ED RN utilizes the principles of relationship-based care to alleviate anxiety. The nurse provides information and addresses pain, discomfort, and safety. He/She assesses the physiological, psychosocial, emotional, and cultural needs of patients of all age groups and their families. The RN connects with patients and families during triage. They identify the initial management of patients and assign priority of care. Rapport is established with patients and families, addressing comfort needs and providing frequent updates. The ED RN conducts primary assessments of critical needs. They detect and document any major deviations from the norm for all age groups. The RN identifies necessary steps and interventions required in urgent situations. Data is used to conduct a secondary assessment by interviewing patients and families and reviewing EMS reports. The ED RN identifies factors such as health history or events preceding health emergencies. The nurse documents and reports any suspicion of domestic violence or abuse. Patients are reassessed to identify their responses to treatment. Mutual trust and cooperation among team members are encouraged to achieve the best patient outcomes. The ED RN is responsible for teaching others and delegating tasks as appropriate. He/She understands the personal responsibility to safeguard public safety. The nurse prepares patients and families for diagnostic procedures and treatments. Appropriate referrals for post-emergency care are made. The ED RN assesses learning styles to maximize understanding during teaching sessions. Questions are asked to evaluate retention of key points in education and discharge instructions. The nurse seeks to understand what is most important to the patient and family. Creating a Healing Environment is emphasized as a key element of professional nursing practice. Patients and significant others are kept informed of their care process. Anticipation of patient and family needs, including notification of support systems, is essential. The patient's condition and situation are maintained throughout their visit. Patient communication boards are updated consistently during the ED stay.
