Apprentice, Data Scientist

About the role

Flatiron School is offering a part-time, paid apprenticeship for aspiring data scientists eager to gain real-world experience while expanding their skill set across disciplines. This unique program combines hands-on project work with a part-time, fully funded enrollment in Flatiron’s Software Engineering bootcamp.

As an apprentice, you’ll work on production-grade data products alongside experienced engineers and product leaders while developing full-stack engineering skills through a structured academic program. The goal is to cultivate a new generation of AI Product Engineers who can think and build across both data and software domains.

Whether you’ve completed a bootcamp, a college degree, or are self-taught, this apprenticeship is designed to help you grow into a multidisciplinary technical contributor through applied learning and real-world impact.

What you'll do

• Work with real datasets to develop and test hypotheses
• Build data pipelines, dashboards, and ML models
• Collaborate on data-driven product features and experiments
• Participate in sprint planning, model reviews, and product discussions
• Attend and complete the Flatiron School Software Engineering part-time bootcamp as part of the apprenticeship (valued at $14,900 in tuition costs)
• Receive regular mentorship and technical guidance from senior developers and data scientists

What we're looking for

Requirements:

• Must be able to work in person in NYC at least one day a week
• Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
• Must be available ~20 hours/week for apprenticeship work
• Must enroll in and complete the Flatiron School Software Engineering bootcamp as a required component of the program (tuition is waived for apprentices)

Preferred Skills:

• Strong foundation in Python and core data science libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, Jupyter)
• Familiarity with SQL and basic data querying
• Experience with data visualization (e.g., Matplotlib, Seaborn, Plotly)
• Some exposure to machine learning concepts and tools
• Clear communication skills and a collaborative mindset
• Curiosity, initiative, and eagerness to grow as a multidisciplinary builder

Expected Compensation

• $23 hour (20 hours/week) plus $14,900 tuition waiver for bootcamp
