PRIMARY FUNCTION/PURPOSE

The Director of Building Security provides oversight of the shelter’s security operational functions, supporting the efficient and satisfactory living and work environment of the facility. This individual will oversee security operations at our Kenilworth House location in Brooklyn, NY.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree and /or a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in Building Security and Operations required
  • Four years' experience in Building Operations with hands-on management skills and direct experience in staff supervision required
  • Current and active New York State Driver’s License is required
  • New York Security Guard License is required
  • F02 Certification
  • F80 Certification is required
  • Proven Contract/ Vendor relationship problem and resolution solver
  • Work Order Systems, New Security Management Systems, Fire Safety Systems and ability to conduct instructor training
  • Self-guided and minimum supervision, outgoing team player, goal oriented, project management skills , e xcellent analytical, evaluative, and human service management skills

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reporting to the Regional Director of Security and the AVP of Facilities, the Director of Building Security is responsible for ensuring the building is maintained in inspection ready conditions, clean, in working order, and ensuring the clients live in a safe environment
  • Directly supervise security (Shift Supervisors and Safety Monitors) and Residential Aide/Food Service Workers staff
  • Establish and communicate clear expectations and priorities for the department
  • Ensure development of direct reports by collaborating with Program Director, AVP of Facilities and CQI Director in ensuring staff training needs are addressed through training, coaching, and resources
  • Collaborate with the Maintenance Director with interviewing and making hiring recommendations, evaluating staff performance, and providing on-going feedback in accordance with agency’s policies
  • Collaborate with the Maintenance Director in preparing the staff for required credentialing (i.e., food handlers’ certification, CPR, F-02 and F-89)
  • Monitor and provide directions to security (Shift Supervisors and Safety Monitors) and Residential Aide/Food Service Worker staff to ensure compliance with program services; In collaboration with the Program Director, will meet with the staff regularly to discuss issues, concerns, and on-going program needs
  • Liaise with building ownership to address landlord in relation to building security
  • Review feedback from inspections from DHS, OTDA, RSRI, DOB, HPD and other government authorities regarding identified deficiencies with building ownership to establish a plan of correction with target completion date.
  • Conduct coordinated client inspection to ensure a clean and safe environment for the shelter clients
  • Report offline units and ensure the reconciliation of them expeditiously; In collaboration with the Maintenance Director, ensures maintenance cleans and prepares units for new clients within the prescribed DHS time frame
  • Oversee and train staff in the Security Operations Department to follow DHS Client Assistance and Rehousing Systems (CARES) regarding incident reports, pending arrivals, discharges, facility bed management, etc.
  • Maintain open and accurate communication with the DHS and HERO unit
  • Ensure the Food Service Workers [Residential Aides] are documenting temperature of food; the number of meals served and discarded per day
  • Ensure Security Operations staff respond to clients in a professional manner and provide the clients with the support needed to stabilize
  • Administer 24-hour crisis intervention protocols, encourage staff/client communication, respond to client needs, and ensure a safe and secure environment for staff and clients
  • Asset management and overseeing the central storage facility
  • Ensure communication of policies and procedures is consistent within the department
  • Regularly scheduled meetings with Security Operations staff
  • Ensure all shifts are adequately covered with little to no overtime, apart from emergencies, and notify the Regional Director and AVP of Facilities of overtime requests
  • Ensure the facility is secured, access control is maintained, and the alarms and security functions are operational

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Engage with other department managers and supervisors towards the improvement of service delivery, through identification of areas of improvement and through strategic planning process
  • Attends and actively participates in required agency and program meetings
  • Maintain a good neighborly policy with stakeholders and community members
  • Attending OATH hearing as needed
  • In collaboration with the Regional Security Director and AVP of Facilities develop and implement structure and sound management systems utilizing SWOT analysis for the department
  • Maintain a system that regularly reviews and monitors policies, procedures, and practices to ensure all staff are in alignment
  • Monitor the department’s exposure to non-compliance matters, make necessary adjustments as needed towards compliance
  • In collaboration with the Regional Security Director and AVP of Facilities, review the department’s overall expenditures towards sound fiscal management

ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with the Maintenance Director in ensuring the delivery of DHS correspondence (i.e., 4002 notices or appointment slips)
  • Review and certify that all Nightly Signature Rosters are being compiled on time and accurately
  • In collaboration with the Program Director, ensure the timely collection, preparation and analysis of client and program information to generate as needed reports, to evaluate program performance and to facilitate short- and long-term planning
  • In collaboration with the Maintenance Director, ensure critical file binders are updated regularly and contain all required documentation
  • Collaborate with the Maintenance Director to ensure client intake forms are completed thoroughly and timely; and client discharge documentation is completed timely
  • Ensure data is entered into CARES and archived according to CRF, DHS, and OTDA standards
  • Analyze problems and prepare clear, concise written and oral reports
  • Approve requisitions

OTHER REQUIREMENTS (including Physical Demands)

  • May be required to work long hours and a varied schedule
  • Travelling throughout various locations in the New York City area
  • This is a full-time position with the need to be flexible due to the organization being a 24/7 operation
  • Lifting and moving objects weighing up to 30 pounds several times a week
