Duties Description The person in this position would assist the regional biologist in the implementation of the threatened and endangered species management programs for the region. The person in this position would coordinate and implement field activities for wildlife programs under the direction of staff biologists. The appointee will be responsible for supervising fish and wildlife technicians; creating work assignments; coordinating daily field activities for staff and monitoring the work performance of seasonal technicians. The person in this position would also assist with other regional wildlife programs including the public access and hunting, game species management, non-game species management, wildlife health and nuisance wildlife management. Responsibilities: - Coordinate the monitoring and management of listed species in the Region. Schedule seasonal technicians and volunteers to conduct site surveys of non-game and endangered species.Train seasonal technicians and volunteers in the monitoring and management of listed species - Interact with the public regarding non-game and endangered species issues. - Assist in completing data compilation and reports and/or maps. Coordinate collection and compilation of data from volunteers. - Assist with coordination of regional shorebird program through collaboration with cooperators and participation at relevant meetings/working groups. - Assist with public outreach and participate in public meetings and workshops. - Provide information, including policies and procedures, to the public regarding threatened and endangered species. - Assist the Biologist with project review involving threatened and endangered species and conduct field investigations to determine compliance with conditions of environmental permits.- Respond to constituents regarding reports of threatened or endangered species or reports of conflicts with threatened or endangered species. Work with cooperators, NGO's or local municipalities to resolve issues or provide protection. - Maintain equipment and supplies and when necessary, order supplies and equipment necessary for program.- Draft monthly reports of program accomplishments and prepare season summaries and reports for work conducted.

Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.NON-COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Three years of experience in fisheries, wildlife, or marine resources management; fish or wildlife propagation; a living marine resources program; or a fish, wildlife, or marine research program.Substitution: one year of college coursework including at least 12 semester credit hours in fisheries, marine resources, wildlife management, or a related field, may substitute for one year of the experience described.COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Reassignment - Currently in the title and an employee of DECorReinstatement Eligible - Previously held the title on a permanent competitive basis or held a title as indicated under the transfer eligible section on a permanent competitive basis.orTransfer Eligible - One year of permanent competitive service at Salary Grade 11 or higher and:Eligible for transfer under Section 70.4: Must meet the open competitive minimum qualifications below;Eligible for transfer under Section 70.1: Permanent Competitive service as a Fish Culturist 1.*55-b/55-c Candidates must meet the open competitive minimum qualifications below and include with their resume or application, a copy of the letter from Civil Service which indicates approval for the 55-b/55-c program.Open competitive minimum qualifications (provided for 55b/c candidates and 70.4 transfer eligibles):Three years of experience in fisheries, wildlife, or marine resources management; fish or wildlife propagation; a living marine resources program; or a fish, wildlife, or marine research program.Substitution: one year of college coursework including at least 12 semester credit hours in fisheries, marine resources, wildlife management, or a related field, may substitute for one year of the experience described.Important: If you qualify under an option requiring the possession of semester credit hours, you must submit a list of qualifying courses or photocopy of your transcript(s) with your application.
