Founded in 1972, Five Towns College is a private, coeducational, non-sectarian institution of higher education. The College serves the cause of music, media, and the performing arts. Additional areas of emphasis in teacher education, business, and the liberal arts and sciences are strongly aligned with the College’s overarching relationship with the arts and communication.
Located on a beautiful 40-acre campus in Dix Hills, the geographic heart of Long Island, New York, the College is a creative center for learning, which attracts artists and scholars from around the world who seek to be enriched by the unique educational experiences it offers.
Five Towns College offers associate, bachelor, master, and doctoral degree programs in eight major areas of study. The most popular degree programs include music, film/video, theatre arts, business management, and mass communication. Programs of study begin twice each year in the fall and spring following a traditional academic semester calendar. Summer, evening, and part-time learning opportunities are also offered. The College delivers classes in traditional, hybrid and blended formats.
The College holds an Absolute Charter granted by the New York State Board of Regents, and its programs of study are registered with the New York State Education Department. Five Towns College is institutionally accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). The College also holds programmatic accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) and the National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST). Its Business Division is a candidate for accreditation from the Accrediting Commission of Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). Approximately 750 students enroll at the College each year, with about 200 residing on-campus in the Five Towns College Living/Learning Center.

Position Overview
Five Towns College is seeking two part-time academic librarians. Each position will consist of between 15 and 20 hours per week, including some weekend shifts, during the academic semesters. Summer hours will be limited to per diem, as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Academic Librarianship
· Provide original and copy cataloging of new library acquisitions
· Print and digital collection development
· Collaborate with faculty members and visit classes to provide information literacy instruction
· Provide individual research consultations with students in the undergraduate and graduate programs
· Assist students in finding materials in the Library and in periodicals databases
· Assist students with citations in MLA and APA
· Processing, circulation, and shelving of materials
· Provide technical assistance on the use of equipment in the Library/Learning Resource Center
· Market the Library/LRC, and create signs and finding aids
· Provide a welcoming and educationally-conducive environment, as well as excellent customer service in all interactions with students and faculty
· Assist the Library Director in any reasonable capacity needed to benefit the overall operations of the Library/LRC and the advancement of the College
Learning Resource Center Initiatives
· Work with students to understand their tutoring needs and liaise with faculty and peer tutors to facilitate tutoring in the library and online
· Help plan and facilitate events in the library
· Take on new initiatives as assigned
College Governance, Outreach, and Life of the College
· Participate in college governance through committee membership
· Attend academic department meetings and collaborate with faculty regarding how the Library/LRC can support their academic curricula
· Coordinate with faculty, chairpersons, and vendors on textbook and materials selection
· Participate in college and programmatic accreditation efforts
Required Qualifications
· Minimum of a Master of Library & Information Sciences degree or equivalent
· Strong customer service skills and a commitment to ensuring that students’ information needs are met
· Comfortable learning new technologies and software
· Strong written and oral communications skills and the ability to collaborate effectively
· Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to create a welcoming and inclusive library environment for students
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience in an academic library setting
· Experience working with students with disabilities
· Familiarity with SirsiDynix EOS cataloging and circulation system, OCLC Worldshare, EBSCOHost and Gale databases, and Canvas learning management system
· Experience with digitization projects
