LESAU Statewide Targeted Reductions in Intimate Partner Violence Field Advisor (Southwest NY)

The Finn Institute is currently seeking to fill a full-time Statewide Targeted Reductions in Intimate Partner Violence (STRIVE) Field Advisor position as part of the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Law Enforcement Strategic Assistance Unit (LESAU). LESAU provides hands-on strategic advising to New York State law enforcement agencies focusing on evidence-based policing practices, community trust building, and the implementation of reform and reinvention collaboratives. LESAU Field Advisors are responsible for providing this strategic consultation to law enforcement jurisdictions, guiding them in implementing the core elements of identified strategies effectively, and working with them to innovate in pursuit of effective violence reduction and public safety outcomes.

LESAU's STRIVE Field Advisor will work with local jurisdictions in support of the DCJS funded initiative to reduce intimate partner violence; develop highly customized technical assistance and capacity building measures; and assist site leadership in the implementation, assessment and refinement of a plan to reduce intimate partner violence through a structured, evidence-based strategy that involves law enforcement and service organizations.

Position Location: Southwest Region (Chautauqua and Erie counties)

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct, intensive support through technical assistance, strategic advising, and data management to DCJS funded law enforcement partners implementing the STRIVE Intimate Partner Violence Reduction strategy.
  • Further DCJS's evidence-based research agenda by guiding sites as they innovate within proven strategies.
  • Build strong collaborative relationships with key stakeholders at each site, including site coordinators, law enforcement executives, research partners, victims' advocates, and other relevant partners.
  • Report internally to senior DCJS staff on progress, challenges, and innovations developing at sites.
  • Work with the Evidence-Based Training and Innovation team to create systems, tools, and processes to track key metrics of strategy implementation, success, and innovation at funded law enforcement partners' sites.
  • Collect, collate, and organize key metrics provided by DCJS funded law enforcement partners sites for analysis.
  • Integrate the work of the unit to elevate and share evidence-based practices across jurisdictions and identify and troubleshoot common challenges.
  • Liaise with high-level government, community, and law enforcement leaders; partner organizations; and academic researchers in furtherance of the Intimate Partner Violence Reduction strategy.
  • Assist in responding to inquiries from various stakeholders on the implementation of domestic violence interventions.
  • Produce reports and additional documentation as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Six years of qualifying experience as a law enforcement officer or law enforcement trainer in a local, state, or federal agency. All qualifying experience must have been gained after basic/recruit training; or
  • Six years of qualifying experience as a domestic violence case manager or advocate.
  • An associate degree or 60 credit hours may substitute for two years of experience; a bachelor's degree may substitute for four years of experience.
  • The preferred candidate will have a minimum of three years' experience in domestic violence prevention, victim services, investigations, or supervision.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong background in domestic violence advocacy, prevention, and evidence-based approaches.
  • Excellent organization skills with strong attention to detail, ability to prioritize, and capacity to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including confidence, tact, and nuance in working with senior political and law enforcement personnel.
  • Strong collaborative skills and the ability to interact with other office staff at all levels in a fast-paced environment, sometimes under pressure.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs, including Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook; proficiency in Microsoft Excel also required.
  • Ability to make independent decisions regarding planning, organizing, and scheduling work.
  • Experience in project management preferred.
  • Experience working with law enforcement (police, correctional/probation staff, etc.) preferred.

Compensation:

  • Starting salary $81,704.
  • Employer-subsidized health insurance in compliance with the Affordable Care Act, dental insurance, and life insurance.

  • Twelve (12) paid holidays plus seventeen (17) leave days annually.

Other Information:

  • Telecommuting allowed
  • Travel 50%, mostly day trips
