Job Title: Distribution Technician Job Description

The Distribution Technician will play a crucial role in performing visual inspections of overhead and underground electrical distribution facilities and equipment. The technician will collect field data, prepare minor work orders, and compile maintenance reports, contributing to the seamless operation of electrical distribution systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform visual inspections of overhead and underground electrical distribution facilities and equipment.
• Collect field data, prepare minor work orders, and compile maintenance reports.
• Assist with storm damage assessments for both overhead and underground distribution structures.
• Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and external clients.

Essential Skills

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Comfortable with fieldwork and technical documentation.
• Ability to drive to job sites and travel every day within a 3+ hour radius of Syracuse, with some overnight stays required.
• Expertise in surveying, detail orientation, equipment operation, and construction.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Ability to work independently in the field and collaboratively in the office.
• Trustworthiness to work independently in the field and survey approximately 75 poles per day.
• Knowledge of blueprint reading, AutoCAD, utility locating, and power distribution.
• Experience with 3rd Party Make Ready - telecom experience.
• Associates degree in Electrical Power Technology or a similar engineering degree preferred.
• Broadband design or OSP design experience is advantageous.
• Familiarity with the National Joint Utilities Notification System (NJUNS) is preferred but not required.

Work Environment

The work environment is 100% field-based, requiring the ideal candidate to be fully dedicated to fieldwork. Opportunities exist for growth into design roles, although initial responsibilities focus on fieldwork. Benefits include a company vehicle, daily food allowance, free hotel accommodations when more than 2 hours away from Syracuse, and compensation for drive time. The position involves travel to various sites, including Buffalo, Messina, and Binghamton.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Syracuse, NY.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $23.00/hr.
