Job Description
This Civil Engineer role focuses on supporting and leading civil engineering design projects, including site layout, grading, stormwater management, utilities, and roadway components for residential, commercial, and municipal developments. You will prepare detailed engineering documentation, contribute to project planning and coordination, and ensure all work complies with applicable local, state, and federal regulations. The position also involves mentoring junior staff, providing QA/QC on deliverables, and participating in client-facing activities such as meetings, hearings, and site evaluations.
Responsibilities
- Design and support civil engineering projects involving site layout, grading, stormwater management, utilities, and roadway components.
- Prepare engineering reports, technical calculations, design documents, and permitting packages to support project approvals.
- Assist with project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and coordination with multidisciplinary teams to keep projects on track.
- Participate in client meetings, municipal hearings, and on-site evaluations as needed to represent project progress and technical findings.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including requirements from NYSDEC, local municipalities, and other regulatory agencies.
- Oversee and guide work performed by junior engineers, drafters, and field personnel to maintain technical standards and project quality.
- Provide quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) on design deliverables to ensure accuracy, constructability, and regulatory compliance.
- Apply hydrologic and hydraulic engineering principles to the design of stormwater and drainage systems.
- Develop civil design solutions for land development projects across NYC, Nassau, and surrounding areas.
- Coordinate site layout design, grading, drainage systems, utility routing, and sanitary system design for residential, commercial, and municipal projects.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to address design issues, resolve conflicts, and support timely project delivery.
- Contribute to a billable work environment by managing time effectively and supporting project workloads, including work beyond 40 billable hours when needed.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 2+ years of civil engineering experience.
- Hands-on experience with site layout design, grading, drainage systems, utility routing, and sanitary system design.
- Experience working on residential, commercial, and municipal projects, particularly across NYC and Nassau.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD for civil engineering design.
- Proficiency with Civil 3D for site development and civil design tasks.
- Experience in stormwater management design, including hydrologic and hydraulic engineering.
- Strong experience in land development and civil design.
- Ability to prepare engineering reports, technical calculations, design documents, and permitting packages.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements, including NYSDEC and local municipal regulations.
- Ability to provide QA/QC on design deliverables and maintain high technical standards.
- Experience overseeing or mentoring junior engineers, drafters, or field personnel.
- Effective communication skills for participation in client meetings, municipal hearings, and multidisciplinary coordination.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) credential or equivalent is strongly preferred.
- Actively on track to obtain a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Experience participating in municipal hearings and public presentations.
- Strong organizational skills to assist with project planning, scheduling, and budgeting.
- Ability to travel to job sites as needed for on-site evaluations.
- Comfort working on a variety of project types, including residential, commercial, and municipal developments.
Work Environment
This role follows a standard schedule of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a 30-minute lunch break. You will primarily work in an office environment using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other civil engineering tools to produce designs, reports, and permitting packages. The position also includes travel to job sites, with timing that varies based on project needs, to conduct on-site evaluations and coordinate field activities. The work environment emphasizes billable project work, with enhanced compensation for hours worked beyond 40 billable hours, and offers exposure to a diverse mix of residential, commercial, and municipal projects across NYC, Nassau, and nearby areas.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of Huntington, NY.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $110000.00/yr.
